"DO NOT STAY HERE. This was my 2 year olds first holiday and we have so many regrets. We were a group of 8. We paid a lot of money for us all to be there and we have been left with an awful taste in our mouths of being scammed. Overpriced, penny pinching mess of a hotel.
- They offer all inclusive but the drinks are undrinkable and the food is inedible. The only edible thing is the margerita pizza.
- The hotel itself is falling to bits, they've used AI on the images of the rooms, they do not look like that, the TVs are about 20 years old and are not smart. No USB slots in the rooms as well.
- The rooms are not child proof. From the dangling lights, to the doors that unlock when the handle is turned when the lock has been turned.. Our 2 year old opened the door herself many times. Our shower flooded - not just a little bit, but completely, which was dangerous for her as well.
- They openly scam you. They do not mention that the pool is heated or unheated. It's unheated, meaning it's colder than the ocean itself - my two year old couldn't go swimming in the pool on her first holiday. When we queried the staff about this we were told, firstly that it does state that it's unheated - however when they opened up the listing, it doesn't say it anywhere. To which when confronted that it doesn't say anything, they shrug and say 'I know' and then try to upsell you on the other hotels which are 40 euros per person per day - for all of 8 of us it's ridiculous.. There is also no exception for disabled people who wouldn't even go into the pool. They strategically avoid mentioning whether the pool is heated or not even when directly asked as well as I saw on a reviews site where someone was asking, they genuinely avoided the answer.
- Pool towels are charged at 2 euros a towel, the upsell at this place is on par with staying at a 1 star hotel.
- Staff are rude and dismissive and you will not be able to speak to a manager about any of your complaints. When further confronted about our issues, we were told it was a 3 star hotel. I have stayed in 5 stars that felt 3 and 3 stars that felt 5, stars don't equate to care and quality, they equate to amenities. I also would say this feels like a 1 at best if we're equating it to quality.
- The power went out multiple times, once whilst I was in the shower, leaving me in a pitch black, flooded bathroom (pictured).
- Black mold (pictured) in the bathroom, cracked tiles (pictured), drawers that fell apart when used (pictured), and curtains that had holes in paired with a lot of stains, right next to where my 2 year old was sleeping (pictured).
- Damp is clearly a problem as they have a damp reducer in the cupboards.
- My partners elderly disabled grandparents were staying in a room next door to us, and on one night, there was a loud buzzing going on in their room, they were unable to sleep that night and due to being disabled were unable to ask for help. We only found out the next morning when we went to get them for breakfast, they had had 0 sleep that night as it was unbearably loud.
- The pool table which is advertised is just for show, they don't have any pool cues for you to actually use it. We wanted to use it on one evening for some form of entertainment but it wasn't possible.
- For being marketed as a family hotel, smoking is rife. Including in the main area which wafts into where children play.
- Wheelchair accessibility is an afterthought. The pot holes on the disabled ramps make them dangerous, and we nearly had an accident as a result (pictured).
To add, anyone we had spoken to also had the same complaints and were also disappointed with the hotel, nobody had anything good to say.
This really tainted our first holiday for our 2 year old. And from other reviews I've seen (the real ones), other people have had similar problems at the other Valamar hotels too. They have bought up a lot of land in Croatia and plonked these atrocities there and it's such a shame..
Pros:
Croatia/the old town is beautiful
Maro world is good, but the walk there is ghetto and soul-less"
