Algarve holidays

A glorious Algarve beach retreat

With its wide bay of golden sand and gentle waves, it’s no surprise that the Portuguese fishing town of Armacao de Pera is something of a beach-lovers’ paradise. An ‘armacao’ was a special fishing boat designed by Moorish tribes, and you’ll see the town’s namesake as you walk around its cobbled streets.

Armacao de Pera holidays are restful and inviting – picture a romantic scene with colourful boats scattered along the seafront and you’ll have a fairly accurate image of this dreamy bay. The town itself has plenty of bars, shops and restaurants, meaning you’ll find everything you need in the resort – you’ll never be far from a local grilled fish of the day or a good ice cream parlour. But if you do choose to strike out and explore, the wider Algarve region offers an abundance of sightseeing, sunbathing, surfing and walking. If you’re looking for a fabulous resort in the Algarve with a touch of adventure, look no further than holidays to Armacao de Pera.

Your Armacao de Pera questions, answered

For non-speakers, the Portuguese language can be tricky to get to grips with. Don’t be tempted to pronounce the first part of the town’s name ‘arma-kay-oh’ – it’s more like ‘arma-sow’.
From June to September, the Algarve promises around 12 hours of sunshine a day. It’s generally warm and sunny from May to October, making it a great beach destination.
Like much of the Algarve, Armacao de Pera’s shops are well-stocked with local wine, tins of sardines and olive oil, but you’ll also find beautiful handcrafted jewellery and textiles.

Best things to do in Armacao de Pera

Head to the fort

A pretty 16th-century ‘fortaleza’ can be found in Armacao de Pera’s old town, and a visit will conjure up images of locals defending themselves from invading pirates.

Splash around at the park

Just a few kilometres inland from Armacao de Pera is arguably the country’s best water/theme park, Zoomarine Algarve, with slides, rides and a 4D cinema.

Go snorkelling

The shallow waters surrounding Armacao de Pera make it the perfect place for spotting colourful fish and other marine life. Rent or buy a snorkel from a local store.
