Mellieha Bay Holidays

A hot Maltese beach spot

Widely considered to be Malta’s most-coveted stretch of sand, Mellieha Bay holidays take you to the outskirts of Mellieha village in the north of the island. Also known as Ghadira Bay, the shoreline is around 800-metres long, with glisteningly clear waters that gently slope out to sea, making holidays to Mellieha Bay perfect for families and children.

Surrounded by restaurants, shops and hotels, the spot is great for a day out if you’re staying elsewhere on the island, and it’s perfect for those who are based within the vicinity. Down on the popular beach, which has Blue Flag status, you can rent sunbeds and umbrellas. Directly opposite is the Ghadira Nature Reserve – a protected area of natural beauty that’s looked after by BirdLife Malta. Being in a quieter part of the island, the restaurants and bars offer a chilled nighttime buzz, while Mellieha village is ideal for a gentle stroll.

Your Mellieha Bay questions, answered

Compared to some European resorts, renting sunbeds and umbrellas won’t bust your budget, but it’s still worth trying to negotiate, especially when the beach isn’t so busy.
It’s about 14 miles from Malta International Airport to Mellieha Bay, which will take around 45 minutes to drive, so it’s worth considering hiring a car.
Malta’s weather is pretty reliable, with temperatures in the 20s for most of the year, apart from the winter months when it drops down to the late teens.
