Cannaregio City Breaks

The essence of Venetian tranquillity

Cannaregio, Venice, is slightly away from big tourist hotspots and a place to enjoy a touch of traditional Venetian charm without the crowds.  Dive into the magnificence of Italian history, culture, and cuisine, taking it all at your own pace.

While Cannaregio’s main street is lively and energetic, the calm residential side streets give a glimpse into local life. Stroll along quiet, picturesque canals to see  why Cannaregio is known as Venice’s most relaxing and laid-back sestiere.

Despite its peaceful nature, it’s still just moments away from all the iconic Venetian landmarks. Whether by foot or water bus, you can easily explore St. Mark’s Square, cross the Rialto Bridge, and tick off all those must-do attractions.

If you’re thinking of staying in Cannaregio, Venice, hotels are  easy to find. As Venice’s second-largest district, Cannaregio offers a huge number of places to stay. So take a look at your options, and start planning your next trip to Italy.

Your Cannaregio questions, answered

You can get to the Cannaregio district of Venice by water bus. Take the orange Alilaguna line from the airport to the first or second stops – Madonna Dell’Orto or Guglie. You can also take the regular road bus to Piazzale Roma, then walk about 15 minutes – or take a water taxi – to Cannaregio.
Enjoy views over the Grand Canal, souvenir shop your way along lively Strada Nuova, or stroll around the Ghetto, the heart of Venice’s Jewish community. You can also venture out to explore the quaint and colourful Lagoon Islands.
Take a look at Teatro Italia Despar, a gorgeous old Neo-Gothic theatre that’s now perhaps the fanciest-looking supermarket in the world! And don’t miss Ponte Chiodo, one of just two remaining Venetian bridges built without barriers along the sides.
In Cannaregio, restaurants are clustered around the Fondamenta della Misericordia. Grab a canalside seat and spend the evening gazing over the Rio della Misericordia while sampling traditional Venetian delicacies like bigoli in salsa.
