"We stayed at Laguna Park 1 as a family of four, with a toddler and a baby. Overall, we had a very mixed experience. There were some really good things about the hotel, but unfortunately there were also a few issues that would make us think twice about staying again.
The rooms are a really good size, with plenty of space for a family. There is a large sofa bed in the lounge, along with a fridge and cooking facilities, which would be great if you are staying self-catering. Our second room also had a lovely large balcony overlooking the pool, with a fantastic sea view.
Unfortunately, our first room was a completely different story. We found large cockroaches in the room, as well as several dead small cockroaches in the corner of the bathroom. We were horrified, especially travelling with a baby and toddler. We reported this to reception the following morning and were initially told, “We don’t usually move guests, we will clean the room” We insisted on being moved and went out for the day. When we returned at around 5pm, the room hadn’t even been attempted to be cleaned.
Thankfully, we spoke to the Jet2 representative who happened to be visiting the hotel, and between her and the manager they were able to arrange another room for us on the 4th floor. Thankfully, we didn’t see any cockroaches in the second room.
On our first day, the pool was extremely dirty. It did appear to look much cleaner over the following days, so we weren’t sure whether there had been an issue with the filtration system. The children's pool also had what appeared to be part of the filter floating around in it on the first day, which wasn't particularly reassuring.
The sun loungers are also fixed in position, so you can't recline or sit up.
I wouldn't say the hotel is particularly pushchair or wheelchair friendly. The lifts are very small, and our room required us to use two separate lifts. With two pushchairs, this meant we had to take one buggy at a time, making trips to and from reception quite time-consuming.
There is also only one lift from reception, which can get very busy at peak times. Our room block was up a fairly large slope too, which wasn't ideal when pushing two pushchairs.
The location itself is good, particularly if you're planning to visit Aqualand, which was one of the main reasons we booked. It's around a 10-minute walk, although there is a small hill on the way.
Costa Adeje is surrounded by some very steep hills which weren't particularly enjoyable in the peak sunshine while pushing two pushchairs! We did manage it twice, but it was hard work. We regularly got taxis into Playa de las Americas, which were less than €10 each way.
We stayed half board but, after the first evening meal, decided to eat out for the rest of our stay.
The restaurant is quite small and can get very busy at peak times. The evening meal selection was limited, with around four main dishes available when we visited. This could be difficult if you have fussy eaters. We also found that food could take a while to be replenished.
For this reason, I would personally recommend self-catering or breakfast-only at this hotel rather than half board.
Breakfast, however, was much better. There was a good selection of cooked breakfast items, cereals, pastries, bread etc., as well as self-service juices and coffees. There were highchairs available for the babies too. A little tip: there are tables outside the restaurant where you can eat breakfast, which was much more pleasant and helped you escape some of the hustle and bustle inside.
Other points
There is no air conditioning, which I hadn't realised before booking and probably would have changed my decision. There are two large ceiling fans which did a decent job of circulating the air, but the room was still warm and stuffy at night. We were also reluctant to leave the windows open in the evening after our experience with the cockroaches.
The hotel does have daily entertainment, although we didn't personally watch any of it.
Overall
There are definitely positives to Laguna Park 1 — the rooms are spacious, the balconies are large, the sea views are lovely, the location is convenient for Aqualand, and breakfast was good.
However, the cockroach issue in our first room, the initial response from reception, the lack of air conditioning and the difficulties with the lifts and pushchairs really affected our stay.
For us, the hotel is probably better suited to self-catering/bed and breakfast rather than half board, and I'd especially recommend considering the accessibility and steep surrounding hills if you're travelling with young children or using a wheelchair/pushchair.
We did make the most of our holiday, but based on our experience, we probably wouldn't choose Laguna Park 1 again."
