"I honestly don’t know where to start with this review.
I’ll begin with the only real positive about this hotel: the grounds. The grounds are beautifully maintained and the pools are lovely. Unfortunately, this is where the positives end.
The food
The biggest disappointment by far has been the food. Quite honestly, it has been inedible.
I want to stress that I am not a particularly fussy or picky eater. In fact, I will normally eat pretty much anything, but I have never eaten so little on a holiday in my life.
I have travelled here with my husband and our 15-month-old daughter, and we have genuinely struggled to find anything suitable to eat. The food is extremely bland, repetitive and, at times, simply unappetising. There have also been occasions where food has completely run out, leaving guests waiting for it to be replenished.
What is even more concerning is the hygiene around the food. There have been flies crawling around the food, as well as ants on the floor. This is completely unacceptable in a hotel of this size and price.
Our daughter has practically lived on watermelon for the duration of our stay because we have struggled to find food that she will eat. As parents, this has been incredibly disappointing and stressful, particularly when you have paid a significant amount of money for what is supposed to be a family holiday.
I have eaten at many buffet-style hotels over the years, and this is honestly one of the worst I have experienced.
The staff
Unfortunately, the service has also been a major disappointment.
Some members of staff have been rude and unwelcoming, and we have repeatedly felt as though we are being dictated to rather than looked after as guests. We have also experienced staff driving golf buggies around the resort at what feels like an unnecessarily high speed.
On one occasion, we were walking back from the children’s disco in the dark with our daughter in her pram. A golf buggy came towards us at speed and, seemingly, did not see us. We had to quickly move onto the grass verge with the pram to get out of the way. This was extremely frightening and, in my opinion, completely unacceptable in a family resort where young children and pushchairs are everywhere.
Queues and drinks
The queues throughout the resort are another major issue.
Something as simple as getting a drink involves standing in a queue, which becomes particularly frustrating when you are travelling with a young child.
The drinks dispensers are also in a poor state. There have been wasps and flies crawling around the areas where you pour your drinks, which is absolutely vile and raises serious concerns about hygiene.
Even the drinks themselves have been disappointing. On several occasions, ordering a Coke has resulted in a drink that comes out almost completely clear rather than resembling Coke at all.
Toilets and cleanliness
The toilet facilities are another area where this hotel falls short.
The women’s toilets by the main pool do not have baby-changing facilities, which I find extremely disappointing for a resort that markets itself as family-friendly.
The restaurant toilet does have a baby-changing facility, but during our stay there was faecal matter smeared up the wall. This is completely unacceptable and should never be the condition of a public toilet, particularly one being used by families with young children.
Air conditioning
The lack of effective air conditioning has also seriously affected our holiday.
There is no air conditioning in the buffet restaurant and no air conditioning in the bar, despite the temperatures being extremely high.
I want to be able to enjoy the children’s evening entertainment and dance with my daughter at the mini disco, but it is simply too hot. I don’t feel comfortable letting her run around in those temperatures, so I end up sitting at the table — and even then, I come back absolutely sweating.
For a resort operating in such a hot climate, I would expect the main indoor communal areas to have adequate air conditioning.
Value for money
I paid over £2,500 for this holiday, and I genuinely cannot understand how this hotel is considered to offer good value for money.
Based on our experience, I would value this holiday at no more than around £750 per person. The standard of the food, cleanliness, service, facilities and overall experience simply does not match what I would expect from a hotel charging what we have paid.
In my opinion, this hotel is nowhere near the standard I would expect from its current rating and should be considered a 3-star hotel at most.
We came away expecting a relaxing family holiday and instead have spent much of our week disappointed, uncomfortable and frustrated.
The beautiful grounds and pools cannot make up for the significant problems elsewhere in the resort. Unfortunately, based on our experience, I would not recommend this hotel and would not return."
