Indigo Madrid Gran Via Hotel

"I chose the Indigo last minute when I realized my existing reservation was at a hotel very near the site of an ongoing protest. The Indigo is ocated in the Palacios neighborhood, south of the CBD in a commercial areas with a lot of retail, bars and restaurants. It is located on a side street, giving it a quieter feel than that of the general area, which is quite busy. Check in was simple although I had an unfortunate interaction at the front desk with a young man who insisted on speaking to me in English. I’ve lived in Mexico for more than two decades, speak Spanish fluently and consider it rude as well as small bore when an employee subjects me to a battle of wills over the language we’re going to speak. The hallways where the rooms are located seem dingy, even when the motion detectors kick on. Lighting in general is poor at this hotel, as I will further explain below. The room, 603, was nice, relatively spacious, well appointed in a traditional style and clean. The water pressure in the shower was nice as were the soap, shampoo, and conditioner. The shower door would not stay closed however, so water sprayed onto the floor if I didn’t hold it closed. The lighting and lighting controls are not not good. The light in the ceiling over the desk could only be turned off by turning off the main switch, which meant no reading light without this other light on as well. The room lighting was not well designed and the controls were. Lt intuitive even putting aside the issue with the overhead desk fixture. The lobby bat is cramped and uninviting, so I opted to leave the premises to have a drink with a friend. I paid the equivalent of $800 per night thanks to a medical convention being in town. This raised prices dramatically in the entire market and I will not assess value based upon this rate. However, for the same price I could have stayed elsewhere and my view is that in this segment one should expect correctly functioning room lighting, more professional staff, better lobby amenities and a better overall atmosphere. The rating reflect these comments, not the inflated room rate."

"We stayed here for two nights. Friendly staff with easy check in and out. Clean room and bath (good shower and drainage). I liked the location since it is off Gran via and quiet. Many options to eat around the hotel including breakfast or brunch."

"Awful experience The check in was the slowest I’ve ever experienced, rude staff and no acknowledgement. The rooms aren’t great, very noisy and woken up by the maid too. Rooftop bar is good but gets overcrowded. There are LOTS more reasonably priced hotels that offer a far more superior service. Note; this is not an official IHG hotel, thus its standards fall far below any other Indigo Hotel I’ve ever stayed in."
