"This was our seventh visit to the La Peñita Apartments in Lanzarote. The price for this self-catering accommodation represents good value for money—reasonable rather than cheap—and the location is perfect if you enjoy a quiet holiday. That said, you do get what you pay for.
We stayed for 10 nights, returning home on Boxing Day 2025. The beach is about 30 metres from the entrance: cross the road, walk down a short steep slope, and you are on a beautiful, quiet sandy beach. There are hundreds of small bars and restaurants within easy walking distance, offering a wide range of cuisines—you could easily enjoy a different national dish for lunch and dinner every day. Our favourite is Mr Pasta, which is right outside the apartments. We also highly recommend a nearby place called “Those Were the Days.” Prices are reasonable, and every other bar to the right of the apartments has live music starting around 9 pm.
The apartments have a recently modernised café which serves a lovely small breakfast for €4, and the coffee is excellent. They sell good food, and the staff are friendly. The hotel reception has also been recently refurbished, and the staff are excellent and all speak perfect English. We booked our holiday with Jet2, and Bev, the local representative, was brilliant.
However, there are several issues that need to be addressed. We stayed in Room 133, and to be honest it had seen better days. Cleanliness was disappointing: the bed linen and pillows should have been replaced years ago, and the beds were well worn. There were no pillow protectors, the mattress protector was stained, and although the duvet cover appeared laundered, it was also stained. The kitchen cupboards had not been wiped down and were marked with fingerprints and drip marks. The quality of both the bedding and the mattress was very poor.
The most frustrating issue, however, was the internet. There was virtually no signal in our apartment. It was shockingly unreliable— even accessing basic websites such as the BBC or Google was hit and miss. I reported the problem on more than one occasion, and although staff wrote it down, no attempt was made to resolve it. If you sat on the balcony you could sometimes pick up a different signal, which was slightly better but still intermittent. The internet was better in the café and excellent in reception, so this is clearly a known issue. There was a large amount of networking equipment still in boxes in reception, apparently waiting to be installed. Streaming services such as Netflix or Apple TV were impossible, and even the room TV frequently cut out. While you don’t go on holiday to be online, checking emails or social media is now a basic expectation.
We have loved our holidays here, but sadly we feel it is time to move on. With updated rooms and reliable internet, this place could be excellent again, but it currently needs a significant uplift. If you are looking for a cheap, basic seaside holiday and do not require internet access, it may still suit you—but for us, it no longer meets our needs."
