"We have just arrived back from our holiday and are just baffled by the positive reviews on this hotel. This hotel really put a dampen on our overall holiday and if it wasn’t for venturing out to see some beautiful areas of the island we would not return to Gran Canaria. Speaking to other hotel guests they all seem to feel the same. A number of guests have made formal complaints with TUI.
Before I start, we booked this as a budget holiday. A budget 3 star with TUI. Upon arriving we found it was actually a 2 star, this didn’t bother us as long as it’s clean, tidy etc… We kept saying ‘it’s a budget holiday’ all week but that doesn’t excuse some of the things we experienced
We arrived late and I asked about the air con unit I had emailed about. The receptionist knew nothing about this and said we had a fan. We have since found out the hotel does not offer any air con units, only fans, even though they advertise the units, including telling potential guests on their socials that they can hire them. I asked twice about them and I was fobbed off. We have also found out from other guests that some are being charged for a fan and others are not. Charging for a fan in 35 degree heat to selected guests is an awful! On day 4 our fan broke and when I went to reception they said we would need to wait for an electrician the following day, I refused to do this as we needed to sleep and the only fan they could give me was from reception. They had around 15 new ones in boxes in the office which you can see through the open door
Upon arriving to the room we noticed that you couldn’t lock the door without using a light from your phone as the electricity card was connected to the key. We separated them so we could get in and out safely. We also needed to charge my husbands medical equipment in the day as we needed a plug for the fan at night. On day 3 the maids removed the key card from the room leaving us without one at all.
During night one we found that the toilet did not flush. We spoke to management the morning after who stated it was fixed. The toilet has broken every day since. On day 2 no maintenance arrived and the receptionist had no clue how to fix it and told us to wait, leaving feaces in the toilet and nowhere for us to go in the night. My husband ended up fixing it himself and has done every day since!
There are no clear prices on the drinks menu other than the 2 for 1 drinks, the prices appear to be made up or decided on based on who is serving or being served. Some guests have commented on buying the same food twice but for different prices. I have added images of the menu prices that were not shared anywhere before we arrived
We have watched some guests be screamed at over leaving towels on beds but other guests seem to be fine to do this. Very odd and not a consistent rule for all. One worker screamed at an older lady which was awful to witness. We aren’t early risers, which is our choice but we only managed to get sunbeds on our very last day by getting up early to make sure we had them.
Tuesday was the straw that broke the camels back. I woke up with itchy eyes and when I went to see the chemist she told me I was suffering from dust mites from unclean pillows, checked under the cover and they are filthy. The same day we were left without any running water for 8 hours, the receptionists when asked had no idea when it would be fixed, at no point were we even offered bottles of water to brush teeth or wash with. My son cut his foot in the pool and we were told there was no first aid available (we have since found out there is a first aid box by the pool that the staff did not know about) and were offered tissue paper. The cut was so deep it was queried if he would require a stitch in the skin. The hotel said they didn’t even have any plasters, they sell them in the shop and couldn’t even offer us a few when we were trying to clean him up!
Although the apartments appear clean and well kept we have noticed issues with the bedding and the towels are awful! They must be at least ten years old. If I had those towels at home they would be thrown away.
We spoke to a couple two days ago who explained that a bathroom tile had fallen on one of their legs and they were refused ice to make a cold compress.
We have stayed in a number of 2 and 3 star accommodation across the world and this is by far the worst. The only bonus for us right now is the location. Guests seem genuinely confused by the positive reviews when having similar experiences as us. The hotel are extremely rude if you even suggest there is a problem
We have already sent a formal complaint to TUI."
