"I was genuinely concerned after reading some of these reviews that we'd made a huge mistake booking this hotel. Cockroaches and bedbugs?!
Our concerns were laid to rest somewhat upon arrival to a clean, beautifully-scented reception. The reception team were brisk in getting us sorted, although the 'quiet' room away from the entertainment I'd requested due to my child's disability was anything but.
I'd actually requested a ground floor room upon booking with our travel agent. We were allocated room 302, on the second floor, directly above the entertainment. Every night from 8.30.until 10.30 and sometimes 11pm, loud music pumped through the room. It would probably have been great if we liked the entertainment as the singers sounded amazing.
I did not complain to hotel staff as due to my child's disability it would have been even more stressful to move him, plus the room was actually very nice. Super clean (smell of cleaning materials on entering the room and the room was cleaned very well every 2 days), lots of space for bags and huge wardrobe, firm and supportive beds with nice bedding and lovely pillows. The bed underneath the sofa you just pull up onto it's legs and it's very long and also comfortable. Slightly tired looking bath but shower had great pressure, the water was lovely and there was plenty of toilet paper issued.
The spa, mini club and Italian restaurant were all closed during our visit due to staff shortages.
The kids pool with snakes and cabana was closed for renovation for the first few days of our visit but then reopened and my son was very happy playing there.
The pools are NOT heated and were genuinely bone-chilling, which is probably lovely in the summer...but not in February.
The grounds were meticulously cleaned every morning, I saw the pools being monitored a lot and the staff clearly work very hard but unfortunately it's spoiled by the behaviour of some (British) guests, leaving bags full of dirty nappies, empty yoghurt cartons all over the place and cigarette butts by their sun loungers, which were majority 'reserved' by breakfast. Yuck. Luckily we were successful finding a spot to sit most of the time and it didn't feel crowded at all.
The all inclusive food offer was....ok. Lots of choice every mealtime but similar offering every day. My son is a selective eater due to his disability but found the chips, burgers, freshly cooked pancakes and the very good fresh bread to his liking. I liked the big selection of fresh salads, meats and cheeses and the fruits, yogurts and grains offered for breakfast was really good. Desserts were mostly gelatin based and typical AI fare. The coffee machines were good, juices were unfortunately syrup concentrates. The staff decorated the hall for valentine's day and there were special dishes which was very cute!
The bars offered lots of choice with AI drinks, brand name soft drinks, sugar free slushies for the kids and a cocktail of the day. Using the plastic ecocups was easy, it must save the hotel so much work collecting dirty glasses and the planet too.
The hotel is situated on the very edge of Correlejo nearest the dunes national park, which meant beautiful nighttime skies and absolute silence after the entertainment had stopped which was very restful. 7 minutes walk to La Tunera park which has a range of facilities for children and adults (park, gym, botanical gardens, a reading room, skatepark, etc!), 12 minutes walk to El Campanario which is a really nice, less tatty-tourist, more local shopping and dining centre including a bell tower to climb and get lovely views. The Hiperdino there is also MUCH less expensive than the Express branches in the town centre. About 25 minutes to the touristy strip. 35 minutes to the harbour side. Taxis are plentiful, extremely regulated, super clean and inexpensive. We had no problem finding a rank when our legs tired out.
In conclusion I liked the hotel and the facilities, I didn't like the location of our room but the room itself was great, I wouldn't stay again just because I dont think all-inclusive is for us."
