"I was truly impressed by this Sofitel. The quality of both service and accommodations at this hotel stands out, even among properties in this price range.
Admittedly, my stay got off to a rocky start. I was initially given a room that had a sewer smell. The front desk found me another room, which smelled much better, but unfortunately, it was uncomfortably hot (the thermostat showed 26.5°C, despite it being February). To make matters worse, the window could only be opened slightly, and the air conditioning was completely non-functional. A technician was promptly sent up, but he concluded that the issue could not be fixed immediately. As a result, I was moved to a third room, which was finally perfect.
Encountering so many issues upon arrival is usually disappointing. However, the staff took the situation very seriously and seemed genuinely determined to turn things around. I won't go into detail, but what they did to turn a bad experience into a great one, and how they did it, was nothing short of spectacular. I was quickly convinced that this property was one of the best hotels I had ever stayed in, and that ultimately proved to be true.
Beyond the service, quality is evident throughout the hotel.
The rooms are gorgeous. Whoever designed them really did a fantastic job. There is no desk in the rooms, which some guests might find impractical, but the space is truly elegant, comfortable, and cosy. I particularly appreciated that they have a real, separate bathroom, rather than following the modern trend of open bathrooms. Additionally, there is a door that separates the bedroom from the entryway, providing good soundproofing against hallway or bathroom noise. Even the toilet paper is high-end, which is a rarity even in expensive hotels.
The breakfast was nearly perfect. They prioritize quality over excessive variety, which in my opinion is the right approach. Several freshly pressed juices are available (not just orange), and they provide generous glasses, unlike the tiny ones often found even in five-star hotels. Their "Haute Croissanterie" concept is really good. Finally, a hotel that takes pastries seriously!
The restaurant is also excellent. It is located next to the bar, and while both have music, which I usually dislike, the volume was perfectly reasonable and not a problem. While the food was superb, I found the cocktails were not quite on par with the rest of the experience. My Piña Colada was overly icy and thin, lacking flavor and texture. It wasn't bad, but it was rather basic, both in its taste and its presentation.
Finally, it's hard to review a Sofitel without mentioning the bed. The Sofitel bed is a reason in itself to choose this brand. Strangely, this time it felt slightly less incredible than usual. Perhaps it was because I had a single bed rather than a double, or perhaps the mattress was aging slightly. Maybe it was just me. I checked, and it was indeed the Sofitel mattress with its featherbed, and it was still extremely comfortable.
Overall, the hotel feels incredibly solid. It is a well-managed property where attention to detail is clearly apparent. Few hotels have impressed me as much as this one, even more expensive properties."
