Hotel Lion d'Or

"Honestly I could not sleep. The first impression was not good. Room was dark, I felt a smell of a water drain in the room. Ventilator in the bathroom did not work and there is no heating ladder inside the bathroom. Towels have no chance to dry up and you have to replace them every day and cannot behave “green”. The water flow in the shower was very weak and I almost could not get a warm water from the handbasin sink. The floor inside the room was sloping toward the bed so that one could feel like sleeping with a head lower than legs. Older guest could feel a bit dizzy. I tried to set the A/C system and comfortable temperature in the room, but even the lowest level level air flow was too strong. Drunk and noisy people are shambling below the windows on street almost all night. Do not open window if you want to sleep. But be prepared for lack of air inside. BUT! There not not only negatives. Location of the hotel is very good. Breakfasts were just perfect! One can find everything in its buffet and in an absolute quality, better than in famous or larger hotels. Bed is quite comfortable. Blanket is fine, only one small pillow is not enough but pretty comfortable. Conclusion? Well, I will not use that hotel again fir the price we paid."

"We only spent one night at this hotel, but we would've enjoyed spending more time. The location is pretty perfect, right near the train and primary bus station. From here it's an easy walk into the city center. The room was a good size and had all of the expected amenities. We felt very well cared for. We had a minor issue with payment that was resolved quickly and to my full satisfaction. Highly recommended for a stay in Haarlem."

"DO NOT BOOK HERE! Manager Dirk Pauw treats you like gross dirt. Checked in at 1pm yesterday 15 July and left bags behind. Receptionist indicated that the first rooms that were ready would be for us. Then after a day at the beach we return in the evening around 22:00 and it turns out that we have to grab another hotel because there would be water leakage. The other hotel is not in the center at all and we ask to see the rooms where water leakage would occur. They couldn't show us this. The manager indicated that booking.com made the mistake and that he will not help us further. The hotel is located on the station square of Haarlem where there are numerous taxis. After half an hour no taxi and our evening is completely ruined. In the end we didn't get a taxi or a hotel and we had to go back home. This is the worst and most unprofessional situation I've ever experienced Would they rent our 2x 2 person rooms where each 1 person would stay more expensive?? That remains the question but you will not get an honest answer at this hotel!!"
