"Hotel Club SUNGO by Pickalbatros – Marrakech, Morocco (May 2026)
In May 2026, I travelled to Marrakech, Morocco with my wife and our 11-year-old grandson for a holiday at the Hotel Club SUNGO by Pickalbatros, located in the Palmeraie area.
Booking with Jet2
We booked the trip through Jet2 and found it to be excellent value for money. After comparing several travel companies, as well as pricing flights and accommodation separately, Jet2 still came out more than £300 cheaper once baggage, transfers, and the free child place were included.
We chose this resort after reading online reviews and checking independent travel sites. The hotel looked ideal for both adults and children, with plenty of activities to keep our grandson entertained. Like many people, we were slightly sceptical about some of the reviews, but thankfully the resort lived up to expectations.
Flights and Transfers
Our flight from Stansted to Marrakech went smoothly with no issues.
At Marrakech Airport, I considered withdrawing cash from the ATMs, but the queues were extremely long and only one machine appeared to be working properly. It’s worth noting that you can only withdraw Moroccan currency once inside the country.
As soon as you exit the airport, Jet2 representatives are there to guide you to the transfer coaches. There were several coaches serving different hotels, but ours had only four couples onboard and travelled directly to our resort, taking around 50 minutes.
I honestly don’t think a private transfer would have been any quicker due to the chaotic local driving. I’ve driven in many countries around the world, but Marrakech has some of the worst driving I’ve ever seen. Lane discipline is almost non-existent, with scooters, taxis, and cars constantly weaving around each other. If you’re considering hiring a car, I’d personally think twice.
First Impressions of the Hotel
We arrived at the hotel shortly after midday and were immediately impressed by how friendly and welcoming the reception staff were. Check-in officially started at 3pm, but the hotel quickly prepared our room and we were settled in just after 1pm.
Although I had booked a standard garden-view room, I had emailed the hotel beforehand requesting a ground-floor room for medical reasons. I was pleasantly surprised to discover we had been upgraded to a ground-floor pool-view room instead.
The resort itself looked immaculate from the moment we arrived.
The Room
Our room was modern, spacious, and very comfortable. It included:
A large king-size bed
An additional single bed for our grandson
Plenty of storage and drawer space
A fridge and safe
Tea and coffee facilities
A large walk-in shower with a built-in tiled seat
The bathroom was excellent, especially for older guests or anyone who struggles standing for long periods.
The TV offered a selection of channels including BBC News, French, German and Italian channels, plus BeIN Sports, which showed Premier League football.
Fresh bottled water was replenished daily, and if you wanted fizzy drinks in the room, the pool bar staff were happy to provide large bottles free of charge.
The only minor downside was the Wi-Fi in the room, which occasionally disconnected. However, Wi-Fi around the rest of the resort — including restaurants, bars, and pool areas — was very good, with speeds fast enough for video calls.
Food and Restaurants
The resort has three main restaurants.
The primary buffet restaurant served breakfast, lunch, and dinner with an excellent variety of food. There were fresh breads, pastries, cakes, cheesecakes, sweets, and fruit available throughout the day.
There was also a live cooking/grill station serving:
Crepes at breakfast
Burgers and fish at lunch
Grilled meats in the evening
Drinks were self-service, including coffee machines, soft drinks, fruit juices, beer, and wine. Bottled water was available everywhere around the resort.
In addition to the main restaurant, there was:
A Moroccan Tagine restaurant
An Asian restaurant
Because the hotel was relatively quiet during our stay, reservations weren’t necessary, although this may differ during peak season.
One of our favourite areas was the bakery café, which stayed open late and served fresh pastries, croissants, breads, and coffee throughout the day. It also had large TVs showing live sports and became a great social area for guests.
There was also:
A dedicated sports bar
Multiple large screens
An outdoor big screen
A nightclub
Honestly, you could eat or drink almost 24 hours a day at this resort.
Pools and Facilities
The resort facilities were outstanding.
There were:
Two huge main swimming pools
A heated outdoor pool
Indoor pool and spa facilities
Whirlpool baths and sauna
Gym and health spa
The accommodation blocks surround the pools and are no higher than three floors, giving the resort an open and spacious feel. Every room had its own outdoor seating area.
Behind each accommodation block were quieter private pools with loungers and umbrellas. These areas were often empty and perfect if you wanted peace and quiet.
Importantly, there were more than enough sunbeds throughout the resort, so there was never any need to rush out early to reserve one.
The pool bar served soft drinks, beer, alcoholic drinks, and ice creams throughout the day.
Entertainment and Kids Activities
The entertainment team were fantastic — very friendly without ever being pushy.
There was:
A kids club
Daily activities
Evening entertainment
Sports facilities including paddle courts and a full-size astro football pitch
The water park area near the entrance was excellent for children, with large pools and water slides in a safe environment. Surprisingly, it was very quiet during our visit, probably because it was a short walk away from the main pool area.
Our grandson absolutely loved it.
Excursions and Transport
Inside the hotel foyer there was a concierge desk where you could book excursions including:
Hot air balloon rides
Camel rides
Quad biking
Taxi transfers
The hotel also provided a free shuttle service to the Marrakech souks several times a day.
A particularly useful feature was having two working ATMs inside the hotel foyer, which saved dealing with the airport queues.
Overall Thoughts
I’m probably forgetting half of what the resort had to offer because there was simply so much available.
The staff throughout the hotel were incredibly friendly and helpful, and the resort itself was spotless. Since the hotel is less than a year old, everything still feels fresh, modern, and exceptionally well maintained.
The gardens were beautiful, filled with flowers and perfectly kept lawns. Every morning, gardeners could be seen tidying fallen leaves and petals before guests even woke up.
Overall, we had a fantastic holiday and I would happily rate Hotel Club SUNGO by Pickalbatros as a true 5-star resort. It offered excellent food, outstanding facilities, superb service, and plenty to keep both adults and children entertained.
We would definitely return."
