"I would like to share a review of our 8-day stay in Marrakech, during which we stayed at Riad Fatouma. There were three adults in our group.
We arrived at the location after midnight, and our host, Mohamed, was already waiting for us. Due to the late hour, we immediately received the room keys and a brief piece of information regarding breakfast. Mohamed stated that we should rest after the flight and have breakfast first, and only then discuss all the details. It was a very nice start to our stay.
Throughout our entire stay, Mohamed kindly answered all our questions and requests. He was concise, helpful, and always available. We also received a map of Marrakech from him with the city's most important points marked. It was a great supplement to Google Maps. When Mohamed was outside the riad, we could contact him via WhatsApp. On site, he was also replaced by Yassine, who took care of our well-being the entire time :)
Breakfasts were served between 8:30 and 10:00 AM. Every day we received freshly baked Moroccan flatbreads, pancakes, cookies, yogurts, jam, honey, olives, and very good bread. Tea was served alongside it. We most often chose traditional Moroccan tea. Upon request, you could also order coffee, which was really very good.
The rooms were cleaned daily. We had no complaints about the cleanliness, and nothing went missing during our stay.
The riad is located in the very heart of the Medina, which is the old town. It is decorated in a traditional Moroccan style – old furniture, original walls, and an authentic atmosphere. For us, this was a huge advantage. It is not a modern property built specifically for tourists, but a place with a soul that allows you to feel the atmosphere of this part of Marrakech at least a little bit.
Our room had a fridge, a TV (which we did not use), and a private bathroom with a shower. There was also air conditioning, which initially did not work. After reporting the problem, Mohamed immediately took care of the matter – the air conditioning was quickly repaired and refilled with coolant. We greatly appreciate his word keeping and prompt response.
A big plus was the location. The riad is located close to one of the gates of the Medina, where we had scheduled transfers and meeting points for the purchased trips. One of them, to the Ourika Valley, was booked right at the riad through Mohamed, and we were very satisfied with it.
We spent most of our time exploring Marrakech. We met many locals. They are open, smiling, and friendly people. This riad is a great location both for walks around the city and as a base for trips.
In the area, there are plenty of small shops where you can buy water, olives, bread, or local snacks. An interesting feature is the bakery located right next to the entrance of the riad. Locals bring dough prepared earlier at home there, and the baker bakes bread and various treats from it. It is a very interesting experience and another element of local life.
There is also no shortage of places where you can have breakfast or lunch and drink delicious juices squeezed from fresh fruit. In the evenings, additional street stalls with grilled food and fruit appear.
You just need to be able to see the beauty of this place, its naturalness and authenticity, and be open to another culture. Throughout our stay, we felt safe and comfortable.
With a clear conscience, I recommend Riad Fatouma to anyone looking for an authentic place with an excellent location, nice service, and a true Moroccan atmosphere."
