"Last November, I left InterContinental Malta disappointed after a stay that fell well short of what we had expected from a five-star hotel. In particular, problems with the room’s air-conditioning resulted in an extremely uncomfortable and sleepless night for my family.
Following my review, the hotel’s senior management contacted me, listened carefully to our concerns and took full ownership of what had happened. We have now returned to InterContinental Malta, and the difference was truly night and day.
From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel genuinely welcome. Check-in was handled professionally by the friendly and experienced team at the Club InterContinental Lounge. We were shown to the lounge’s dining and bar area, where we enjoyed champagne, snacks and fruit while the formalities were completed. The immediate impression was one of first-class service and thoughtful hospitality. Special thanks to Serena, who gave us such a warm welcome and continued to look after us throughout our stay.
Our accommodation was exceptional. It was situated on one of the hotel’s highest floors and offered a spacious living area, a large terrace overlooking the pool and sea, a luxurious bathroom with walk-in shower and spa-style bath, and even a treadmill. The beds were incredibly comfortable, the Bang & Olufsen televisions were superb, and the L’Occitane toiletries added another touch of luxury.
Most importantly for us, the air-conditioning worked perfectly throughout the stay and could be adjusted individually.
The welcome amenities were beautifully presented and included a handwritten note from Hotel Manager Cedric Cauvelier, champagne, fruit, and an impressive selection of handmade chocolates and delicate cakes. The care and attention to detail made the welcome feel genuinely personal.
The Club Lounge was spacious and comfortable, with tasteful modern décor and a lovely outdoor terrace where we enjoyed breakfast each morning and cocktails in the evening. The sunset views were sublime.
Breakfast included a good buffet selection alongside freshly prepared dishes from the à la carte menu, including eggs Royale, eggs Benedict, pancakes and waffles. Afternoon tea, evening cocktails and canapés were also served, with an excellent selection of drinks throughout the day.
The service was consistently first class. The core Club Lounge team remembered us throughout our stay, and everyone was friendly, attentive and accommodating without ever appearing forced or overly formal. Serena was exceptional and regularly took the time to speak with us. A further thank you to Njambi—I hope I have remembered her name correctly—for one final act of hospitality on our departure day.
Club access also included use of the private rooftop pool, which offered superb sea views, plenty of loungers and several in-pool sunbeds where guests could relax in the water while enjoying the sunshine. As access was restricted to Club guests, the area felt peaceful and uncrowded compared with the main pool.
Nothing fell short during this return visit. We felt thoroughly pampered, relaxed and refreshed, and this was unquestionably our best stay in Malta. Were it possible to award six stars out of five, we would.
A very special thank you must go to Hotel Manager Cedric Cauvelier for the care, thought and attention he put into every aspect of our stay. His leadership and commitment to restore our confidence were evident throughout. I would also like to thank Franck Lopez and Franco Vella for their support behind the scenes.
Exceptional service recovery is about listening, accepting responsibility and responding with sincerity, professionalism and care. Cedric, Franco and the wider team achieved precisely that. They have more than regained our confidence in InterContinental Malta.
We will most definitely return on our next visit to Malta."
