"Well, what can I say about this hotel other than, "Wow!"
Happy hour at the pool bar 4pm-6pm buy 1, get 1 free! Really decent drinks/food on a huge extensive menu, food was awesome, bar staff even better!
Pool music every day when I attended, from the crowd attending the Rong (Trance music) Open Air Music event which was all over the island and not connected to Topaz, but the people attending were staying there, which quite frankly, I was made up with and ended up joining them....7am wake-up call by some dude called Pedro tho, lol, down at the pool with some other dude filming him! ....Hardstyle music at 7am, oh my word!! If you were into DEFCON 1 you'd of loved the 1st week of May at Topaz, just saying!
Staff, awesome! Being an ex-hotelier, my do not disturb sign stayed on my door and the staff managed to get in there only the once during my 7 day stay! The waste bin out in the corridor was good enough for me to empty what I had in my room every couple of days, plus I know how to make my own bed! :)
Speaking of the rooms....twin bed, pool view, right on the corner by the lift, which was out of action on arrival and being worked on. I don't like lifts anyhow, but, when they got it working, well, you could walk to the 4th floor faster than those in the lift, so much so, that you had the ability to hit the lift call button on every floor going up or down, much to my amusement, for those in the actual lift and cursing with the doors opening on every floor, lol!
There's a safe in every room, nothing huge, kept my passport in there, but, I had my laptop with me; and that was fine the whole 7 days, not that I saw any security in the building, compared to other hotels I've stayed in, close by, but, Topaz was far better than those imo and way cheaper!
The shower I had, well, going by the floor, it had a tsunami problem when the water hit the wall, but you get 3 towels; and well, who needs 3 towels to dry themselves? Exactly! So now you have 2 towels as one is soaking up that tsunami, which is just a design fault on the shower cubicle, but you don't go on holiday to complain about the room/bathroom now do you? No, you go to enjoy yourself!
They give 2 money off vouchers for the aquarium...worth it, if I'm honest. Just stay out of the submarine attraction if you hate lifts, but if you like something a bit extra, check their website, pay a little more; and you get to watch things behind scenes getting fed, which is different each day! I watched the sharks get fed, oh yeah, I might take my boss next time, for a close encounter, lol! There's a bistro on the ground floor with money off if you visited; and an outdoor cafe too. Bonus, the complex is right next to Cafe Del Mar, so if they have an event on, you can look over the wall and watch everything for free...did I say there was a trance event on?!! Want a drink, go to that cafe or bistro and you've now got music and a drink to go with it!
There's a kettle in the room, zero coffee/tea etc, but there's ample 24/7 shops outside the hotel where you can get all that from. There's also a Spar around the corner, too! Also, they have 9 Lidls across the island, so you'll be fine for food/drink, but your app probably won't work, tho!
If you buy anything, there's a fridge in the room.
Wi-Fi is a bit iffy, so you may want to use your mobile phone's hotspot to link any devices you bring (Laptop, etc)...I was making music in my room and needed a internet connection, but I had EE unlimted (UK), so no issues there for me!
There's an area just past reception to buy hot drinks, snacks, water (Needed for the kettle), shampoo, etc that you pay by card! First hotel I've seen in Malta to have that, someone had a smart idea coming up with that!
...Did I say the pool is good? It is! Baby pool included for those, like me, that can't swim!
There's loads of chairs/sofas to sit in the lobby area; and they have zero cares that you just ordered 100 euros McDonald's delivery for you and 3 random people all starving on lobby at 4am, lol!!
There's a brit bar on the next street along with an Indian restaurant 2 doors to the left of it, well worth going to both and erm, a McDonald's close by too, along with an HSBC cash machine close to it! Loads of bars in the area, drinks are really cheap, everyone drives on the left; and those from the UK can bring their 3-pin plugs, as everything is the exact same as being in the UK, except it's hot, damn hot!
Taxis, don't use the white ones, you'll be ripped off, use bolt or uber! Uber's app shows up in £'s if you're from the UK!
Topaz offers days out etc; and the sightseeing tour bus stops literally outside the hotel all day, which is well worth getting around the island for a reasonable price!
Personally, despite those that posted 1 stars for the noise and endless school kids, or karaoke from the pensioners after their bingo, till the wee hours of the morning, well, it's a place to get your head down for a few hours, then go sightseeing/attend events, etc, or a meeting. You didn't fly thousands of miles to sit by the pool for 7 days, now did you?!! Exactly! Stop complaining then!!
All in all, I'll be back next year, as I loved every part of my experience at the Topaz Hotel!!"
