"The Grand Hotel Cavour is an excellent 4-star hotel that combines historical elegance with modern luxury and convenience. Centrally located between the Piazza del Duomo and Uffizi Gallery, both a few minutes away by foot, this thirteenth-century palace has been used as a hotel since the nineteenth century. Its interior features elements of traditional ornate decor, including marble floors, decorative columns, large portraits, beautiful furniture, and plush couches and chairs. The majestic hall and lobby impress with colonnades, stucco, beautiful paintings, and historic frescoes, reminding the visitor of the hotel's palatial origins. We enjoyed the relaxed yet elegant atmosphere of this space.
The ground-floor breakfast area was designed by eighteenth-century artist Galileo Chini and includes beautiful stained-glass windows and detailed wall designs. The buffet breakfasts were outstanding, offering fresh fruit and berries, meats and cheeses, dairy and grains, breads and pastries and croissants, and a nice variety of juices, coffee, and tea. The front desk staff and concierge were professional and friendly, helping us with planning our daily activities.
Our spacious suite (recently renovated) combined the historic with the modern, incorporating elements like vintage decorative pieces and paintings with modern hardwood floors and a spacious modern bathroom. The room was equipped with all essential amenities, including a minibar, LCD TV, free Wi-Fi, safe, and hairdryer. Our room overlooked two narrow streets with very little pedestrian noise. The early morning street cleaners, however, ensured we were up bright and early. The hotel's friendly maid service kept our room spotless, ensuring our towels, toiletries, and tissues were restocked daily.
One of the Grand Hotel Cavour's best features is the Divina Terraza, a rooftop bar and terrace that offers stunning panoramic views of the city, including the Duomo and Campanile on one side, and the Palazzo Vecchio on the other. Seating reservations were required, free for all guests. The hotel also offers a fitness center, as well as a secret bar located in an ancient brick-arched basement—excellent for small-group gatherings. The hotel's concierge arranged for a nearby private garage to pick up our rental car upon arrival and deliver it back upon departure—extremely helpful given the narrow streets of the limited traffic zone.
The Grand Hotel Cavour is an excellent hotel in every respect, especially its central location. Piazza del Duomo, Piazza del Signoria, Palazzo Vecchio, Palazzo Borghese, Ponte Vecchio, Dante's House, and the Uffizi are all within a few minutes' walk from the hotel, as are several excellent restaurants. The cost of our suite was more than reasonable, considering the value of the hotel's location and quiet luxury. I highly recommend this hotel for travelers planning to visit the main sites of this beautiful, romantic city."
