"We travelled with Easyjet Holidays and stayed at the Hotel San Pietro on a half board basis for 1 week. Our room number was 875, which was at the end of the corridor at the second to last block and we had the most fantastic balcony with superb view of Lake Garda. Our room was basic but what we expected, having stayed at similar Italian hotels before. It was spotlessly clean and the housekeeping staff deserve a thankyou for being so friendly and wonderful at their jobs, keeping our room spotless throughout our stay. We were given a few gifts, wine, biscuits, vanity bag etc, which were all gratefully received.
This hotel is not for someone with mobility issues, as although there are a few lifts, there is a lot of walking involved to get around the vast hotel complex and to get to their sister hotel next door, Hotel Cristina. This was our only gripe....we paid to stay in a 4 star hotel (San Pietro), yet our evening meals were served in the Hotel Cristina, which is a 3 star hotel. The restaurant opens limited hours for dinner, between 6.15pm & 8.30pm, but usually by 8pm the restaurant was empty and everything was being cleared away. We usually prefer to eat later on our holidays so this set up didn't suit us. If you enter the restaurant around 7pm, it's hard to find a spare table, as most guests seem to go in at 6.15pm, and are still there by 7pm. The restaurant food was ok, I would describe it as 'homestyle' cooking. The salad bar was inventive in making use of left over foods, the main courses always included a carvery (not to my taste) but there was plenty of choice of other food to be fair. The deserts were always good! However, we paid for a 4 star hotel and expected a 4 star hotel restaurant but we didn't get this for dinner. Breakfast was served in the San Pietro.
The hotel has a huge cocktail list, all around the 7 euro mark, and other drinks ranging from 3 euros upwards. Wine we thought was expensive as a small measure cost 5 euros. It tasted the same as the 'free' wine in the restaurant in the evenings, which is on tap, as long as you're patient and wait in line to get your glass filled up!
There are three swimming pools (one of these indoor) and we chose to go to the pool at the top of the terrace, which you're given a key for, as it's behind a locked gate to stop guests from the Cristina using it. However, the guests from the Cristina are able and were accessing this pool by a side walkway up from their garden area, without the locked gate to stop them! There are lots of available sunbeds, either by the pool or around the gardens and grounds. The gardens are kept immaculately with fruit trees, olive trees and lots of wonderful plants and flowers which were a joy to see.
There is an excellent minibus service from the hotels to the town, which was running every 30 minutes when we stayed there, although there is a gap of a couple of hours in the middle of the day for lunch break I assume. It costs 1.5 euros per person, per trip but was well worth it, especially coming back to the hotel, as it's quite a hill to walk up. To walk down to the town, there are various shortcuts, and it took us around 10 - 15 minutes walk to get down to the lake.
There is a supermarket around a 8 minute walk down the hill (use the steps from the pool at Cristina to cut the corner off).
The evening entertainment was at the Cristina again (this may be different in the months of July/August)....by the time we got to it, there were no more seats available so ended up lying on the sunbeds by the pool, next to the music, which was fine with us. The entertainment varied from an organist/vocalist guy, to an amazing saxophonist accompanying a female singer.
Overall the service we received at this hotel was excellent, especially the housekeeping staff and Reception staff, who there always seemed plenty on the desk and ready to help. I think they have a lot of work experience staff here and their English is absolutely excellent. Considering it is coming to the end of a long season for them, they still had a ready smile and willingness to help, which we appreciated!
Thankyou Hotel San Pietro for a relaxing holiday in Lake Garda and for giving us the room with the view we'd hoped for!"
