Punta Hotel

"Hotel was ok, however no hot water for our entire 3 night stay. Reported several times and each time they acted as if this was the first time they heard about it, despite several people reporting the same issue. Location is on the other side of the island so you have to get a taxi to go into the town which is quite expensive. There is a free shuttle bus a few times a day but have to book early as fills up quickly. Restaurant was good, average breakfast and buffet dinner. Overall would not book this hotel again."

"Firstly, we booked 1 week holiday on a bed and breakfast basis through TUI. We went from September 7th to September 14th. We left the UK at 06.15 in the morning arriving at Skiathos airport 3 hours 30 later. We had the usual turmoil of waiting for the luggage at the carousel; however, no passport issues here. We were directed to a minibus outside by the TUI rep……..and that was the last time we saw one. Got the minibus to the Punta hotel. We checked in and was directed up 1 flight of stairs to room 203, not really a problem for us but might be for people with disabilities. There are no lifts at this hotel but there are stairlifts at most stairs bolted to the walls. Room was OK, view out of the doors was excellent, we did not open wardrobe clothes storage area, a very hard bed and quite hard pillows. There was a bottle of water in the fridge and coffee making facilities on the shelf above. The balcony was nice, two chairs and a table, however, they have obscure glass panel between you and your neighbours’ balconies with a clothes drying rack hung over the top. We did not realise before booking but this hotel faces west, and as such the pool and poolside did not get the sun very early. Skiathos town was covered in sun from 8.00am, the pool and one corner of the poolside area got some sun at about 09.30 and it was 11.00am before all of the sunbeds were in the sun for some drying off after a swim. The small beach attached to the hotel is lovely, but is a shingle beach and is down about 40 – 50 home made steps cut into the slope, so again not really suitable for people unsteady on their feet. You have to pre-book the free minibuses into town quite early or they fill up and you have to book a taxi. Taxi prices were about 10 euros into town and 12 euros coming back. Occasionally the hotel would book your taxi and then ask if we can squeeze two other people from the hotel at the same time….then the cheek to charge each couple 10 euros each……robbery in my eyes. Some nights there were major queues at the taxi rank for our trip home after evening meal in Skiathos. You do ebd up going along the road passed the end of the runway and look at all of the nutters holding on to the fence when an aircraft takes off……its quite a roar when they go too. Skiathos town itself is lovely, lots of fine restaurants, cafes, bars and shops. Also, quite a lot of hire places for cars, mopeds, motorbikes and quads. We were only here for a week so never hired anything, but people say it’s a great way to see the island. There are also loads of different boat trips available down at the port from beach taxis to full days out and trips to other islands. A very busy little town but plenty of places to sit down and eat or drink or simply people watch. There were some super yachts in the port and we looked to check if anybody famous might be boarding. We did a couple of days to different beaches to see. We caught the bus to stop 14 and walked to Tzaneria beach, very lovely, comfortable sunbeds, however, 30 euros for two sunbeds and parasol here, sand was a little gravelly but ok. Great beach bar at the back and a QR code on your parasol to look at the menu and order stuff to be brought over. Great day. Two days later caught the bus again (very packed with people standing up the entire journey) down to stop 25 the last one and Koukanaries Beach. Again stunning location, very comfortable sunbeds, again 30 euros for a set and several beach bars along the back for refreshment, proper sand too, lots of water sports for those who enjoy this. The sea looked significantly clearer here and could see lots of fish. Better beach out of the two. Generally a lovely place to holiday however not necessarily the right hotel for us, very little sun and lots of taxi’s. perhaps find a different hotel a little closer to Skiathos town. Ready to go home and not one text message from TUI to tell me what time the minibus would pick us up from the hotel. Went down to reception 3 hours early and spoke to another couple who had received a message and told us the time. Got to Skiathos airport and as you would expect a lot of flights leaving at the same time so really busy, queues of people heading in opposite directions stood side by side, madness, until you get onto the plane home. I don’t know if we shall return to Skiathos any time soon. It is lovely, don’t get me wrong, but so is Kefalonia or Zante and for me they both offer a little more for your money. In all not quite what we expected but reasonable holiday."

"Lovely hotel couldn’t fault it , all staff were so helpful. Reception ladies where exceptional. Restaurant staff and daytime bar men were also excellent, very friendly and helpful. Food in restaurant varied and really nice , pool snack bar was very good too great value for money . Hotel mini bus transfer good in to town 3 times a day but need to book , easy to get taxi other times €10"
