Unfortunately, we saw the reviews too late, so we were quite apprehensive about staying at this hotel.
When we arrived, it looked fine at first glance. The staff at reception were helpful and friendly. We arrived early, so our room wasn't ready yet, and we decided to have a drink by the pool. The pool didn't look very clean, and the drinks we ordered were just mediocre. That pretty much sums up the entire hotel: it's all almost okay, but never quite good enough.
The room itself was clean, but the bathroom was outdated. The shower (one of those massage shower panels) was old and covered in limescale. It didn't work properly—only the handheld shower function worked. If it doesn't work, just replace it. The toilet was clean, but so heavily affected by limescale that it always looked dirty.
The air conditioning (Room 201) only blew warm air. When we reported it to reception, someone supposedly checked it and told us they had looked at it, but nothing changed. The room was already very hot at this time of year, so I can only imagine how unbearable it must be in July and August.
There were two chairs on the balcony that were so filthy you didn't even want to touch them. On the third morning, we noticed new chairs waiting outside to be installed on the balcony, but when we returned to the room later that day, the same old dirty "white" chairs were still there.
The pool was cleaned on the evening we arrived, so the next day we knew that whatever debris was floating in it had accumulated in less than 24 hours. But once again, the pool was just another example of the hotel's overall standard: almost acceptable, but not quite. The white drainage grates around the pool were broken in many places, and the pool itself looked grubby.
The breakfast was disappointing. Everything was technically there, but once again it just missed the mark. Canned fruit, "omelets" that had clearly been pre-cooked and cut into small pieces, and weak coffee. On top of that, the atmosphere in the breakfast room felt like sitting in the reception area after a funeral. Absolutely dreadful. We didn't eat breakfast there again after the first morning and instead went across the street for fresh bread rolls and excellent coffee.
This hotel would probably be fine as a budget accommodation. What I don't understand is why Sunweb offers it at this price point. If you keep looking, you'll almost certainly find something better.
That said, Skiathos is a lovely island. 🇬🇷"
