"Overall we enjoyed our week in the sun but were underwhelmed for what we paid and won’t be back to this hotel or another Mitsis resort.
Food for people with dietary restrictions:
My wife can’t eat gluten, onion or garlic. I emailed before, noted on arrival and spoke to guest services. We are used to it being difficult, buffets in particular, so we were excited for the à la carte restaurants…
On arrival in the buffet my wife was shown round and had an overview from one of the head chefs, this was reassuring and the general availability of gluten free bread, pasta, pizza was good. They will also make gluten free pancakes which my wife enjoyed.
Unfortunately none of the food in the buffet is labeled for allergens, aside from milk occasionally. This is poor and something that should be fixed easily. The buffet itself isn’t very exciting and we were very done with it by the end of our weeks stay.
The à la carte restaurants were a huge disappointment. Our usual approach is to advise the day before a range of options my wife may like from the menu to let the team prepare something she is able to eat. Our first booking was the Italian restaurant and guest services said we didn’t need to do this as they can accommodate when there. This did not happen and meant she could not have any pasta due to the pre-made sauces. The server also incorrectly assumed my wife was lactose intolerant and served her a caprese salad with no mozzarella, leaving a plate with a few green leafs and tomato.
The second à la carte was the tex mex. we spoke to guest services again and asked them to note what she would like to help the chefs prepare in advance. Upon arrival she was originally served what seemed to be chicken nuggets and chips. We queried and once again they had a mix up. They then provided the meal requested and ironically she couldn’t even eat the corn as it was not cooked properly.
Our final attempt at the à la carte was Pita for lunch. They were much better at accommodating and made gluten, onion and garlic free chicken gyros, but unfortunately once again the food was poorly cooked and the chicken was comically dry. At this point we gave up and cancelled our other à la carte bookings and ate elsewhere. The standard of the food provided to her was really poor.
Drinks experience:
Again I’m basing this on what we paid and it being advertised as a 5 star ultra all inclusive. They have a really odd policy where between the 3 bars they have different drinks menus available at different times of the day. I went for a pina colada at 2pm - went to the beach bar was advised not on their menu so go to the pool bar. Went to the pool bar and was told they won’t do them until 6pm. Went to the lobby bar and they asked if I was drinking at the pool which I said yes, they made my drink, put it in a glass which I took back to the pool, and then I got hassled for not having a plastic glass at the pool by one of the staff.
The quality of the drinks aren’t great. Not surprising I guess but the spirits are as cheap as you can get. They don’t have common drinks like Jack Daniels and the listed drinks menus are limited.
The staff:
We met some really lovely staff throughout our stay but unfortunately our experience generally was that the service was quite cold. On checkout Maria simply said ‘60 euros please’ as we had paid for late checkout, and that was it. Not a thanks for staying here, how was your stay, goodbye etc.
Shoutout to the gentleman making the omelettes each morning though who was great, the gentlemen who greets you in the buffet who assisted my wife daily. And our fantastic room attendant in the sharing pool area.
Sharing pool:
My wife is pregnant and feeling unwell so we opted for this as it was easy access to the room from a sunbed. These rooms will be marmite but for us they were ideal. You will get a sun lounger and it is quiet on the most part (you hear music from Club 8). For the first few days of our holiday if you weren’t on a sunbed at the main pools by 9am you’re struggling to get a spot. A waitress from the pool bar also came round most days to take a drink order.
Downside of these rooms is the pool is very cold, you loose the sun on the loungers in the afternoon, and the privacy element as you are quite exposed to other people in this area walking by so end up with your curtains closed in your room most of the time.
The rooms:
As most have noted, the rooms are all dated. They were fine and clean, but clearly need a refresh.
Activities:
They have a really great wellness area with a new gym and spa built last year. Would recommend both. Also have lovely padel and tennis courts. Sadly for organised activities there is very little. They do have a schedule for spin, stretching classes but I went to try a spin class and there was simply no one there to take the class. With the tennis and padel it seems a really easy win to organise some times for people to play as a group. With lots of couples attending the resort and padel needing 4 people it meant the courts looked very underused. There is some aqua aerobics.
Evening entertainment is lacklustre, but recognise that may be personal preference. The biggest issue is lack of seating and many people having to sit on sun loungers to watch.
Overall:
I don’t think the hotel is worth the cost. The food and drink isn’t great, service below par and very little makes this stand out as somewhere that I’d make the effort to come back to. We also caught a sickness bug during our stay, but can’t pinpoint the source - more could be done to enforce hand sanitation when entering the buffet to lessen the risk of bugs spreading."
