"Disappointing experience for a 4-star hotel
We stayed at this hotel for 6 days in room 561. Unfortunately, during our stay we encountered quite a lot of issues.
The room
• The balcony is shared between two rooms. This is quite uncomfortable when you want to sit outside and enjoy the view, while only a few metres away your neighbour is sitting in his underwear and smoking.
• The furniture in the room looks very old. For example, the desk lamp looks like something that has been there since the early 2000s. The pictures on the walls are attached with large bolts, which looks rather strange for a hotel that presents itself as a 4-star property.
• One of the electrical sockets did not work. Luckily, there was at least one other socket available.
• The room was cleaned very superficially. There was a lot of dust on the back of the bed. Behind the armchair we found two almost completely deflated balloons left by previous guests. Apparently, nobody had noticed them during cleaning. Photos are attached.
• The double bed was made with one large sheet. For a couple who prefer to sleep under separate blankets, this is inconvenient. There were only two additional blankets in the wardrobe.
• There were ants in the room.
• The toilet cistern in the bathroom was constantly leaking.
• The number of towels provided after cleaning was different every day.
• There was an incomplete set of glasses in the room.
• The TV only offered German and English channels. This was another thing that gave us the impression that the hotel is mainly aimed at German- and English-speaking guests.
Restaurant and dinner
Before dinner, there are staff members in suits at the entrance checking the dress code. I understand that wearing trousers for dinner is a hotel requirement, but during the summer season, when temperatures can approach 40°C, this can be quite uncomfortable.
The way guests are directed into the restaurant also felt unnecessarily controlling. One employee lets you in and points at another colleague. The second employee then walks you to your table and points at where exactly you are supposed to sit. This happened every evening and became quite irritating. We are adults and perfectly capable of understanding simple verbal instructions.
During dinner, the same staff members and other restaurant employees regularly walk between the tables and watch the guests while they are eating. This creates a feeling of being constantly observed.
At the same time, when a plate is completely empty and placed at the edge of the table so that it can be collected, staff can walk past it several times without taking it away. Yet when there is still food on the plate, staff may repeatedly ask whether you have finished and whether they can take it away. We really did not understand the logic behind this.
The tables for two people are also very small. There are already many things placed on the table, so fitting several plates at the same time can be difficult.
Food
The food in the restaurant was quite repetitive. Every day there were several types of pasta and usually only one type of potato. Breakfast was also almost exactly the same every day.
There was also no toaster for bread at breakfast, which we found surprising for a hotel of this category.
We expected more variety and better organisation of the meals from a 4-star hotel.
Snack bar by the pool
Menus are placed on the tables, but there are no waiters coming to take your order. You have to go to the counter yourself. There was no information explaining this, and nobody at reception mentioned it when we checked in.
The first time we visited, we sat at our table for around 15 minutes waiting for a waiter. Eventually, a member of the snack bar staff who was cleaning the tables explained to us how the system works.
Whenever you eat something sweet, insects immediately appear — both small and large ones, including bees and flies. The staff did not seem particularly quick to help guests in this situation.
We also experienced overly familiar behaviour from one of the female employees at the pool bar, which we found inappropriate.
Beach
The hotel has its own private beach, but sun loungers are charged separately even for hotel guests. We found this quite surprising.
Overall impression
We got the impression that the hotel is primarily aimed at German- and English-speaking guests. Most information is provided only in English or German, and the TV channels in the room are also only in German and English.
Overall, after six days we were left with the impression that the hotel does not fully live up to the standard we would expect from a 4-star property.
For a hotel of this category, we expected better housekeeping, better-maintained rooms, more variety in the food and a more comfortable and welcoming approach towards guests.
We are attaching photos of the balloons found behind the armchair, the pictures attached with large bolts and the incomplete set of glasses."
