"The A&O Hostel Nørrebro is a complete disaster. We stayed there from 28.09.26 for 5 days (4 nights) as part of our graduation trip. After the staff finally managed to hand out the different room cards, the problems really started.
In our 7-bed room every single duvet cover had at least one big red or yellow stain. All of them smelled strongly of mould and looked anything but clean. The sink and mirror were broken, and there were still mud stains on the door. The worst thing though were the yellow, greasy stains on the shower floor and the black mould on the shower curtain. Something like that is just not okay, especially in a bathroom that’s meant for people with limited mobility.
Pictures of it are above.
Some of our classmates had vomit stuck to their bunk bed, and several rooms weren’t cleaned at all. In one of the showers the water didn’t drain anymore, so you were standing ankle-deep in it.
The most shocking thing was what happened in another room: yellow liquid was running down the wall and collecting on the floor. When we asked at reception if they could clean the room and fix the problem, the answer was basically that we shouldn’t complain because we’re not sleeping on the wall or the floor. About 24 hours later someone from reception finally came to look at it. When she got to the room she took photos of the problem – but also of the suitcases and the people staying there. When we asked why she was photographing us, she just shouted “shut up, be quiet.” The offer afterwards was two 4-bed rooms for one night, even though we still had two nights left.
So all you can really say about the rooms is that they’re not livable. I’ve stayed in a few hotels and hostels before, but this is by far the dirtiest and most disgusting one I’ve ever seen. If I had known about the hygiene situation beforehand, I never would have gone there.
At night there’s a night guard who starts hassling you from 10 pm onwards as soon as you leave your room. Talking, quiet talking, walking, normal volume in your own room – everything gets complained about. Then comes another “be quiet now” and the immediate threat of a lifelong ban from the whole chain. A room across from us almost got kicked out just because they were talking at a normal volume in their own room (nobody outside could even hear anything). Having someone to keep order at night is fine in principle, but he shouldn’t immediately start shouting at people and threatening to throw them out. A bit of chill wouldn’t hurt.
The food was also a complete catastrophe. The pasta on the first day was both overcooked and hard at the same time. You had to get cheese the long way via the salad station. The worst were the burgers on the second day – the beef was swimming in litres of fat, I’ve never seen anything that disgusting. Everything else that day tasted of nothing. Completely flavourless.
With the schnitzel on the third evening they just reheated the potatoes from the day before. The schnitzel itself was so soft it was almost falling apart and the breading was already completely shredded.
Breakfast was okay, just a normal hotel breakfast. I didn’t expect much, but I was still completely disappointed.
That sentence pretty much sums up the whole stay: I’m never going back to this hostel again. My tip: management should take room cleaning a lot more seriously and teach the staff some tolerance and basic politeness. A hostel this dirty with staff who don’t care about the guests and just get on your nerves shouldn’t be allowed to stay open in my opinion. If you can still cancel – do it. It doesn’t get much worse than this."
