Holyrood Aparthotel

"We booked the apartment 1yr in advance to ensure we got the apartment in the location we wanted. What we weren’t told is that every September they do refurbishment to the building. There was no notification of the extreme noise made during the works and the fact that you will have to endure hammer drills, banging and other machine noises for over 8 hours a day, every single day. You’re woken in your bed every morning to the sound of multiple hammer drills banging away on concrete floors and walls that resonates throughout the entire building! It’s impossible to hold a conversation in the apartment or to watch TV or listen to music as the noise is so loud! The apartment we had was modern and well equipped however the TV was terrestrial only and had a terrible signal making it useless. A smart TV connected to the internet would be much better. We booked 6 nights at the apartment but, after 3 we’d had enough of the noise and complained via booking.com. The complaint has to date, been ignored by the aparthotel management. We spoke again to booking.com and got them to cancel 3 days and get us a refund. Aparthotel refused to give us 3 days refund and only paid us for two days. The lady at booking.com agreed that this wasn’t acceptable and lodged a second complaint with the aparthotel management to get us the 3rd day refunded as well. Eventually we got the 3rd day refunded as well however, we’re still awaiting compensation for the 3 days we were there. Staff at the building are OK however, they’re unable to make any decisions on anything and refer everything to head office who just do everything they can to ignore customer complaints and refund requests. Needless to say, we will never use an aparthotel ever again and never recommend them to anyone either."

"Dingy apartments not at all like the photos!! Location was good and we appreciated the breakfast that was left in the kitchen, replenishing was no problem. The rooms had comfortable beds but the decor was old and yuck. Carpet was worn in areas , bathrooms small and sinks didn’t drain properly. Armchairs were old and uncomfortable and the TV was tiny and mono so didn’t work properly. Staff were unhelpful with this and were mostly surly and annoyed that you went to the reception (like when our cars wouldn’t open our room) Lots of noise at all ours if the night coming from reception. Rooms had individual heavy doors like it was a dorm room and would only stay open when wedged with a chair"

"What I loved: Comfy pillows, bed sheets and bed - I slept well! Kitchenette. Location (location, location). What was less than expectations: Lots of broken and/or worn out things: 1. Washer-dryer broken in 1st room, but they changed it for us. 2. Safe broken 3. Lightbulb out over soda. 4. Bathroom sink plug broken 5. Grab bar in tub and toilet paper roll device loose Above 2-4 reported, but not fixed while we were there."
