"We had a brilliant relaxing stay at the Family owned Alkion hotel in Kriopigi.
Our journey in a private transfer took just under an hour from Thessaloniki airport.
Check in
When we checked in we were greeted at reception by Alex. Alex was very welcoming and checked us in very efficiently. He prompted us to take a photo of the wifi code so we would be able to login to the wifi when we had arrived at our room.
He explained the basic things we needed to know such as where and when Breakfast was served (8am until 10.30am in case you were wondering)
Alex then helped with our cases to our room, which was number 403, which was an apartment room.
There are steps down to the rooms, so if you are unable to manage steps/steep hills then this hotel is not suitable.
There are approx. 59 rooms which are situated around the pool area. The rooms nearest the reception and Breakfast room appear to be 2 storey, and the block on the opposite side of the pool (Our rooms block) had 3 floors of rooms.
The hotel has well kept gardens that are attended to everyday. The gardens surround the pool and the rooms. The hotel feels very spacious and is well set out.
-----------
Our Room
The room was large and extremely clean. We had a Garden View which was fabulous.
In our apartment room you enter to a small Kitchenette, which has an under the counter fridge with freezer compartment, a hot plate and a sink. We had a kettle, toaster and an array of cups, glasses, cutlery, utensils etc. We only used the cups and kettle, but it seemed you could make some basic meals if you wanted to.
Opposite the Kitchenette is the generously sized bathroom. It features the expected toilet, sink and a large walk-in shower.
We had plenty of hot water every time we showered and the pressure was really good. There was complimentary bathroom items supplied, such as soap and shower gel. The fittings in the bathroom all felt and looked new and well maintained.
After passing the Kitchenette and bathroom you enter the main part of the apartment. Here we had a single bed, a double bed and a chair bed. There was a small double wardrobe, a TV, two bed side tables and a dressing table.
The bed and pillows were very comfy and we slept well every night. There a couple of plug sockets but the room would have benefitted from a socket that could be a dedicated phone/tablet charging place with a surface to rest your phone tablet whilst it is being topped up.
The TV had a few channels we found the BBC news channel and found the Netflix/Disney and You Tube apps but we did not log into them as we don’t watch much TV whilst on holiday….just a bit of news whilst we get ready to go out.
You could then enter the terrace through a sliding door. On the terrace there was a table and 4 chairs and a clothes airer that was useful for drying our wet swimwear.
Our view was of the gardens surrounding the hotel, and it felt very private.
--------
Wifi
We were connected to the Wi-Fi throughout the hotel and its grounds including the swimming pool and pool bar.
It was a good signal for the duration our 9-night stay. We did not try and stream anything from a source such as Netflix though, but I would guess that you would be able to without issue.
------
Breakfast
The Breakfast was superb. The choice was plentiful. There were different breads, meats, cheese, fruit, Yoghurt, pastries, eggs 3 different ways, bacon sausage, baked beans and so much more. Tea, Coffee Juice etc. It was served buffet style and it was all good quality.
-----------
Pool and Pool Bar
The pool bar is naturally situated next to the pool. It serves drinks from approx. 10 am in the morning, and food is served from 13.00hrs until 23.00hrs
The food is meals such as burgers, chips, toasties etc. They serve a wide range of alcoholic and soft drinks.
The service and attention detail was first class and we enjoyed many drinks in the bar.
Happy hour started 9pm and included Cocktails, Beer and Ouzo.
The pool is lovely; the sunbeds are comfy enough to relax on all day.
Whatever time you arrived at the pool there was always empty sunbeds. There are parasols dotted around the pool for shade and some guests relaxed under the trees in the garden as they offered great shade during the hottest parts of the day.
There is the larger pool with a very deep end and a shallow end and a smaller children’s pool.
There is music played around the pool from the pool bar but this is not too loud it is just background music.
If you want loud and lively and to be entertained by the hotel then this is not the hotel for you.
There is a children's playground to help keep your youngsters amused.
A large car park is attached to the hotel should you wish to hire a care and want a place to park it.
---------
Beach
The beach is approx. 10 min walk downhill, and a very steep and invigorating walk back up to the hotel. The hotel offers 2 shuttle trips in their mini bus during the day. The Aktaion beach bar also offers a regular shuttle service during the day.
As mentioned there is a gorgeous beach bar when you do venture to the nearest beach to the hotel.
---------
Restaurants and Shops
The restaurants and shops are a 5 min walk uphill from the hotel.
There are some decent bars, tavernas and restaurants to choose from. There are a few small touristy supermarkets and gift shops if you need anything whilst on holiday.
-------
We thoroughly enjoyed our peaceful, relaxing holiday at the Alkion.
The setting was magnificent and the views across to other parts of Halkidiki were amazing.
We would not hesitate to return to this hotel should we ever return to Halkidiki"
