• New easyJet holidays research reveals over a third (43%) of British holidaymakers are actively seeking out hotels with minimal or zero football screenings this summer

  • More than half of travellers (55%) agree that the game negatively impacts their holiday experience, while 31% of travellers would willingly pay up to £100 extra per night just to guarantee a completely football-free resort

  • To escape the football hype, easyJet holidays launches ‘Football Free Getaways’, a collection of screen-free sanctuaries across Europe and North Africa

As football fever takes over living rooms across the UK, new research from easyJet holidays reveals that British holidaymakers are planning a tactical substitution; fleeing the country for an entirely football-free summer escape.

While millions prepare to tune in, over a third (43%) of the population is pushing back against the tournament takeover. Explicitly stating they prefer or require a hotel with minimal or no live football screenings at all, favouring to enjoy their vacation without the constant distraction of late-night cheers and pool-side match commentary.

The Great Football Escape

For these travellers, the much-loved game is proving to be a holiday disruptor. The research reveals that 55% of respondents firmly agree that major football tournaments negatively impact the overall vacation experience, with 53% of people stating they have been in arguments with a close one over watching football on holiday.

The desire to escape the sports hype is so strong that consumers are willing to put a price tag on their peace. When asked how much extra they would be willing to fork out to guarantee their accommodation remains a verified screen-free zone, 31% of holidaymakers stated they would pay an extra £25 to £100 per night just to secure their sanctuary.

Over half (55%) of Brits are opting for destinations like Italy, due to the appeal that the country is not included in the tournament this year.

Ultimate Screen-Free Sanctuaries
