The setting of the Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria is, quite simply, iconic. You’ll find it pushed up against a cliff’s edge on the Amali Coast, with the majesty of Mount Vesuvius clearly observed in the background. Take a stroll among the hotel’s lush gardens, whose flora and fauna showcase the very best of the region.
The hotel itself is made up of three classically-styled nineteenth Century buildings featuring old-world flourishes such as exquisitely designed columns, frescoed ceilings, and antiques that hark back to its 19th century origins. Inside or outside, this is a place rich in incredible sights and smells.
The Excelsior Vittoria’s jewel in the culinary crown is, of course, its Michelin-starred restaurant overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Expect regional and Mediterranean cuisine with a fine-dining twist, prepared with fresh, local produce. Need the perfect wine pairing? Consult the restaurant’s expert sommelier and find the ideal accompaniment with your meal.
But that’s not all – for some of the finest pizza in Sorrento, head to the restaurant set in the hotel orange grove next to the pool area. Enjoy club sandwiches and fresh pasta are at Terrazza Vittoria, which overlooks the Gulf of Naples, while an American-style breakfast buffet is on offer in the mornings.
Found in a converted 19th Century greenhouse adjoining the swimming pool, the boutique spa sits among olive and orange trees with a design that follows the principles of Feng Shui. You’ll find three cosy treatment cabins here, plus a private suite with its own Jacuzzi tub.
The pool, meanwhile, has its own whirlpool complete with hydro-therapy massage jets, a separate children’s area, and a large seating area with comfortable sun loungers. Rather work up a sweat? You’ll find the fitness centre on the ground floor, which is fully air-conditioned and full of state-of-the-art equipment to ensure the best possible workout.
Three bars ensure the drinks are kept flowing at the Grand Hotel. You’ll find one by the pool and another that specialises in the finest bubbly this side of the Amalfi Coast. Finally, the Vittoria Bar is the place to go for your favourite tipple and a spot of chilled music.
Some of the gardens aren’t just for show, either. It’s where the hotel grows many of the ingredients used in their cooking. Including the herbs, spices, and essences use in many of their signature cocktails.
