What Novotel Edinburgh Park has to offer
The Royal Mile
No trip to Edinburgh is complete without taking a stroll up and down the Royal Mile – the street that runs the length of the Old Town, from the Palace of Holyroodhouse at the bottom to Edinburgh Castle at the top. 20 minutes by train or 30 minutes by tram, it’s home to a dizzying array of places to eat, drink and shop, as well as several museums, a cathedral and all kinds of street performers. The narrow, twisting cobbled streets that branch off on either side deserve plenty of exploration, too.
Edinburgh Castle
Possibly Scotland’s most iconic landmark, the castle looms over the city from its perch on an extinct volcano. It dates back to the 11th century and you can either take a guided tour or uncover its history all on your own. From the magnificent Great Hall, to the Fight for the Castle exhibition in the Argyle Tower, there’s plenty to see – and hear! Make sure you keep an ear out for the famous One o’clock Gun.
National Museum of Scotland
There’s a bit of everything in this enormous museum, which houses an eclectic mix of artifacts from worlds of nature, science, art and Scottish history. There are plenty of interactive kid-friendly exhibits to keep the little ones occupied too, so you could easily lose yourself for hours here. Minutes on foot from the Royal Mile, it’s in easy reach if you catch the train or tram into town.
