Golden Avenida Family Suites

"The Golden Avenida — lovely hotel, but Salou wasn’t for me! We recently stayed at The Golden Avenida in Salou for 13 nights, mainly because of our flight times, and overall we had a really lovely stay. 🏨 The hotel The hotel was spotlessly clean, the staff were extremely friendly and there seemed to be plenty of them around, which was great to see. The facilities were very good and the air conditioning was excellent, which was definitely appreciated during our stay. There were only a couple of minor things in the rooms that could have been better. There weren’t enough plug sockets, which was a bit inconvenient, and both bedrooms had to be set to the same air-conditioning temperature. Unfortunately, what was comfortable for one bedroom was freezing for the other, so duvets were needed in one room! We went half board and thought the food was very good. There was a good choice and, most days, there was something for everyone. A special mention to the breakfast manager, who was very on top of cleanliness and clearly kept her staff on their toes. The dining area was always well looked after. We also ate out every second night to try some of the restaurants in Salou. We did have one absolutely dreadful meal at a restaurant that was supposedly the 5th top restaurant in Salou — honestly, it reminded me of a cheap kebab! 😂 Thankfully, we also discovered three really lovely restaurants, so it wasn’t all bad. ☀️ Now for the fellow holidaymakers… These points are absolutely nothing to do with the hotel, but they did make me laugh/frustrate me during the holiday! The personal music players: If you want to listen to your own music around the pool, please use earbuds. I shouldn’t have to listen to your music when I’m trying to relax! 😂 The sunbed warriors: To the families reserving 8–12 sunbeds at a time — does your five-year-old really need their own sunbed when they’re going to spend most of the day in the pool? And does Granny and Grandad really need a sunbed each when they only make an appearance for an hour? I know everyone likes a good poolside spot, but a little consideration for other guests wouldn’t go amiss. The suncream sprayers: I have bought my own suncream, thank you very much — I don’t need to be sprayed with yours! 😂 Please be aware of who’s around you before spraying suncream everywhere. Not everyone wants to be caught in the middle of your personal sunscreen cloud! And finally… the smokers and vapers. I choose not to smoke, so I really don’t want to be sitting around the pool inhaling cigarette smoke or vaping fumes. There are designated bar/patio areas with ashtrays provided, so please use them rather than smoking or vaping around the pool. It’s a family hotel, and I think a little consideration for other guests — especially children — wouldn’t go amiss. I don’t want to spend my holiday feeling like I’ve started smoking when I haven’t! 😂 🌴 The hotel vs Salou This is where my review probably differs from some others. I was definitely a fan of the hotel. I’m just not sure I was a fan of Salou. I travelled with my 12-year-old, and he absolutely loved the hotel — the activities, facilities and atmosphere were right up his street, so from a family perspective, the hotel was a big success. Personally, though, I didn’t really take to Salou. I found it a little too honky-tonk and busy for my taste. That’s obviously a personal preference and I’m sure many people absolutely love the lively atmosphere. We visited Cambrils, and I much preferred the quieter, more relaxed feel there. Having said that, Cambrils might perhaps be a little too quiet for some families, so I think it really comes down to what you’re looking for from your holiday. ⭐️ Overall Despite my reservations about Salou itself and a few frustrations with fellow guests, I would definitely recommend The Golden Avenida. The hotel was clean, well maintained, the staff were lovely, the facilities were good and the food was varied. My 12-year-old had a fantastic time, which is probably the most important review of all! Would I return to The Golden Avenida? Absolutely. Would I return to Salou? Probably not. But that’s the beauty of holidays — we’re all looking for something different. 😊"

"Bedroom 5/5 Location 4.5/5 Food 4.5/5 Service 5/5 Cleanliness 4/5 We generally use the H10 chain when in Salou but we are super glad of selecting Golden for this mid-term visit! Fantastic hotel for families. Bedrooms have adequate spacing with a small and neat kitchenette, tidy bathroom, small living area including a bed within this space. A separate bedroom with a double bed, or two singles, however you wish is also in your room. We had a balcony facing the swimming pools which gave us lovely sunshine throughout the day. We opted for breakfast only at Golden Avenida, as we really like local restaurants around Salou for lunch and dinner. The dining space at this hotel is fantastic in size, cleanliness and range of food options are no shortage. Reception area offers a lovely welcome as you arrive through the front doors, with great lighting and friendly staff. Our youngest kid had a ball in the kids club. The range of activities put on by the team was brilliant. He was kept entertained from morning til night, which was great at this time of the year as the outdoor pools were super cold! The indoor pool is a nice option, but being super honest it feels so grubby and unclean in that space. It is also self-supervised so groups of teenage kids were at “free rein” causing a lot of disruption. There are fantastic outdoor facilities for kids other than the swimming pool, including pool tables, ping-pong table, large playground space and an Astro turf for sports. My wife and I use the spa services while we were here. Opting in to a facial and a massage, it was super relaxing. After our treatments, we then used the indoor spa leisure space which was very nice and spotless clean. Massage jets, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. The main walking road to the shops passes nightclubs and late in the evening the pathways are generally crowded and one must walk up the roads instead. This is out of the hotels controls and that is understood, but just know in advance. We will return no doubt."

"An amazing hotel in Salou. The food and service is incredible. Great facilities. Less than 5 mins walk to the strip and the beach. A brilliant pool for the kids and loads of activities and entertainment. Great staff too."
