"Overall me and my son loved our stay at Alannia Salou, It is in a great location and our TUI transfer dropped up pretty much right outside (just across the road). Check-in wasn't til 4pm so they took our detail and cases and advised they would whatsapp me when the room is ready.
Unfortunately I received no whatsapp, reception said they had tried to contact me to let me know when room was ready - so not sure what happened there, but that wasn't really an issue as we walked to the beach and when we came back to check, it was ready (around 3pm).
The hotel and all its facilities we used were extremely clean for the most part (apart from on our last full day where I was what looked like some vomit near the pool bar/ toilets that was there for several hours). Pool cleaned daily, each morning we saw the cleaner going round with the skimmer cleaning it all out.
Breakfast if you get there early is hassle free, but if you arrive later it gets a little busy queuing for the toaster and trying to navigate without bumping in to everyone. The hot selection is limited but adequate although a bit random some days (chicken nuggets and fries for options at breakfast?).
I cant comment on other food otherings as we only had breakfast on site.
All staff we engaged with were friendly, this was initially a worry as I had seen lots of reviews saying the staff don't like the English and are rude. But that wasnt the case in my experience.
The pools are amazing and my SEN son built up so much confidence over the week playing in the pool on himself, he loved the stepping stone challenge and the inflatable bounce pad.
Drink options at the bar were fine, with Lager, Cider and IPA on offer along with cocktails, wines etc.
On to some of the negatives which I may have just been unlucky with.
First room we were given, was a nature room.
The towel rail was initially hanging off, then fell off.
The main door to the room although it shut/ locked there was a gap where it obviously wasn't closing right letting in excess noise from outside which was a bit of an issue getting noise from the late night entertainment and people congregating outside in some of the open space near our room.
Also the fridge didnt work.
These were all reported on the first day.
Maintenance knocked on my door at 11pm! to deliver a new fridge. Great for getting it sorted quick but they could have warned me as my son was asleep at this point.
There was a language barrier but we used google translate and the maintenance guy said he would be back in the morning to look at the door. Shook hands and all seemed well.
5pm the next day, the door still didnt close right and the towel rail was not fixed. I emailed reception again who replied to say they had passed it on to maintenance.
I returned back to the room around 9:30pm that night (2nd night) still nothing fixed and now after entering the room the door would no longer close/ lock. So I called reception who advised me that maintenance was not able to fix the issue and I needed to change room.
So I had to pack all our luggage back up at 10pm which change room which was far from ideal. They could have responded to our email trail and I would have returned back sooner to change room!
However they only had a disability room free which initially didn't seem like an issue, however once unpacking I realised as there was a larger wet room in this accommodation, we no longer had the dividing unit between the bed and toilet. shower and this greatly reduced the amount of storage space in the room which meant we had to use the 2nd bed/ Sofa for storage and me and my son had to share a bed for 6 nights and unfortunately with this being a wet room it meant you had to put footwear on every time to use the toilet or be prepared to get wet feet which my SEN child didnt appreciate.
Upon showering the next morning it became apparent the shower drain was blocked and shower water filler up, escaped the bathroom and wet the suitcases that were near the clothes rail outside (so its a good job we used the bed as storage and didn't leave anything in the cases).
I reported this after breakfast and by the time we returned to our room later that evening the issue had been fixed and we were provided clean towels (as I had used then to dry the floor).
The final issue we had. The paperwork you get states if you leave personal possessions on your bed, they cannot move them to clean make your bed (which I agree with). So one morning we left the room with items on the bed as we were heading out early and I put the do not disturb sign on the door as I didnt want my room cleaning. Unfortunately when we returned, they had entered my room, moved all our belongings off the bed to make it and put them on the spare bed where we were storing items and removed the do not disturb sign and put it back in side. This led to some clean items of clothing getting mixed up with dirty but also was ignoring the privacy request of their guest and not following the guidance in their own paperwork.
Overall we did enjoy our stay but the above issues did inconvenience us and leave a bit of let down feeling when you consider the price of Alannia compared to some of the other accommodations.
Would I return? YES! But I hope they learn from some of the above i.e. time of maintenance visits, Updating customers but also more importantly respecting th privacy of do not disturb and their own policy to not move belongings off beds!"
