Herceg Novi Holidays

A scenic seaside spot in Montenegro

The picturesque town of Herceg Novi is a dream for nature lovers. The Unesco World Heritage Site is located at the entrance to Montenegro’s fjord-like Bay of Kotor and has jaw-dropping views out to the forested Lustica peninsula and the glittering Adriatic Sea beyond. From the moment you arrive, you’ll be struck by the beauty of the serene scenery.

Herceg Novi holidays will also delight history fans. Start with a walk around the Old Town’s café-dotted lanes, then wander along the pedestrianised waterfront promenade from where you’ll see the walls of Fort Mare – an impressive fortress that the Ottomans and the Spanish fought over in 1539. For those keen on some sunbathing or taking a dip, there are lovely pebble beaches and swimming platforms for you to discover.

Holidays to Herceg Novi are also a great base for exploring. You can journey around the mountain-fringed Bay of Kotor, hop on a boat trip to pretty Lustica peninsula or head to the Institute Igalo spa for a mud bath. Whether you spend all your time in Herceg Novi or mix it up with adventures further afield, you’re sure to leave feeling utterly impressed.

Your Herceg Novi questions, answered

Montenegro is a scenic country to travel around by car, but inexpensive regular buses connect Herceg Novi with destinations including Tivat and Kotor, with both journeys taking around an hour.
Go to the restaurants in the Old Town and along the promenade to enjoy excellent seafood dishes, which often show the influence of nearby Italy. Think seafood risotto followed by grilled fish.
Kayaking in the bay is popular – join a day trip to Igalo, the Lustica peninsula or Mamula Island. If you want to do your own thing, simply hire a kayak or stand-up paddle board.
