"My partner, our two daughters (aged 10 and 9), and I came to Kos for our first family holiday here, staying for a week, and we have absolutely loved our time at Mitsis!
We were assigned Room 884, which had the most stunning views of the sea and surrounding islands. Sitting on the balcony in the morning or evening and taking in the scenery was simply beautiful. The room also had access to a little saltwater pool beneath the balcony, where you could swim while enjoying those incredible views.
From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with smiling faces at reception. Our room wasn't quite ready, so we were directed to the restaurant for lunch, where we received another warm welcome from the team. Nothing ever seemed too much trouble for any of the staff.
The lunch and dinner service is buffet style, with a huge selection including fresh salads, breads, meats, fish, and plenty of options for children. Our girls practically lived on the spaghetti bolognese and fries all week! We also enjoyed trying different Greek dishes and fresh fish throughout our stay.
On our first evening, we watched the fire and light show around the main pool before heading for dinner, which was a fantastic way to start our holiday.
The beach is only a short walk away, although there is a buggy service available if you'd rather not walk. The hill back up to the hotel is definitely a calf workout, but worth it! The beach area can be a little confusing at first regarding which facilities belong to Mitsis, but once we worked it out, it was great. Mitsis guests have access to the green parasols, a dedicated bar, pizza station, and gyros station. Portions aren't huge, but you're welcome to go back as often as you like.
We also booked the speedboat sofa ride (€25 per person), which was great fun and well worth doing. There are inflatables and various water sports available on the beach too.
One day we visited Aquatica Water Park, about 15 minutes away by taxi (€15 each way). The hotel prepared us a packed lunch, which we ordered the night before, and fresh pool towels were always available. Reception even gave the girls little gifts during our stay, including waterproof phone cases and beach toys, which was such a thoughtful touch.
Aquatica was fantastic and excellent value. We paid €64 for a family of four at the gate. It wasn't overcrowded, and there was something for everyone: racing slides, twisting slides, thrilling drops, a lazy river, and plenty of sunbeds. Food and drinks were reasonably priced too, although we mostly enjoyed our packed lunch from the hotel.
We were also recommended Avli Restaurant in Kardamena, and wow — what a beautiful setting! It's a traditional family-run Greek restaurant that catered brilliantly for both adults and children. The girls were delighted to find chicken nuggets on the menu! With starters, mains, drinks, and dessert, we paid around €130 for the four of us, which we felt was very reasonable.
Back at the hotel, the buffet food was generally very good, although I do think a few more simple children's options such as grilled chicken or nuggets would be appreciated. That said, our girls happily enjoyed their spaghetti bolognese most days and even tried new dishes such as lamb chops and local Greek specialties.
Because lunch and dinner are buffet style every day, the menu can feel a little repetitive after a week. A themed evening every now and then would be a fantastic addition.
The drinks service is mostly self-service, and during the day you'll generally order at the bars yourself. The staff circulate more during the evening entertainment. The pool with the slides became our favourite area because it's quieter, the bar is only a short walk away, and the girls absolutely loved the slides. The main pool is lovely too, although it's saltwater, so the children preferred the slides pool. The sunbeds there are more comfortable as well, with cushioned loungers.
What truly makes this hotel special is the staff.
Housekeeping did a wonderful job every day, the restaurant and bar teams were always friendly and welcoming, and Verdana, the restaurant manager, went above and beyond to organise a birthday cake and singing for our daughter's 9th birthday. It was such a special moment for her.
Reception deserves particular praise. Before we even arrived, Chryssa was incredibly helpful, answering all of my questions promptly and professionally with a great sense of humour.
However, the absolute superstar of this hotel is Georgia (long straight brown hair at reception). She truly embodies hospitality. Every request was handled quickly, efficiently, and always with a smile. She organised everything perfectly and made such a positive impression on our holiday. If you visit, make sure you say hello to Georgia!
A special mention also goes to the gentleman at the crepe station who always jokingly tried to add cheese to every crepe order. He had the girls laughing every day, and they became completely obsessed with the Nutella crepes!
Overall, the staff are what make you want to come back. While I'd love to see a little more variety in the buffet and perhaps some themed dining nights, these are very minor points.
We've had an amazing holiday, enjoyed beautiful 31°C weather all week, and we're already talking about returning. The hotel is only around 15 minutes from the airport, making transfers incredibly easy.
What a fantastic find. We can't wait to visit again and are already looking at other Mitsis hotels. I've even signed up to the rewards programme because I'm officially a loyal customer in the making!
Thank you, Mitsis, for a wonderful family holiday."
