A bus service departs for Chania every 15 minutes and the journey takes about 20 minutes. It is also an easy drive if you have a hire car.

The beaches in the resort are safe and clean, with clear, shallow water, and there is plenty to keep the kids entertained in the area.

In general, Crete offers reasonably priced food and drink. As anywhere, the bars and restaurants away from the main drag will deliver more bang for your buck.

History buffs will want to visit the Souda Bay War Cemetery, where rows of gravestones commemorate the Commonwealth soldiers who died in Crete during World War II.
