"TLDR / Too Long Didn’t Read:
A mid-scale price but budget feeling hotel, convenient for the cruise ships, with nice rooms, great staff but an average ‘continental+’ breakfast offering.
As always with my reviews, I’ll split things up into ‘The Good’, the “Not so good’ and ‘the weird’, followed by some practical information if you choose to visit this hotel.
- The Good;
Very friendly check in - in fact all the staff I encountered were absolutely super. I was upgraded to ‘as good a seaview as they had’ on a high floor. Rooms are compact, but well arranged and high quality fixtures and fittings.
A great range of teas both at breakfast and in the room and a proper waffle maker at breakfast but more on breakfast later.
Lots of plug sockets in the room, all featuring a Standard USB and USB-C port on them.
- The Not So Good:
The only bed size you can get is queen size. If you’re used to sleeping in a king sized bed, it will be a little cozy I suspect.
Breakfast was the biggest let down with the hotel unfortunately. Every time I was down, even during the quieter times, It is absolutely rammed of people, despite it being actually a very large seating area. It felt like a hostel dining room - in part because the actual food area is quite small. The offering I can only describe as “continental+” as the hot option was only pancakes, soft boiled eggs, (not great) scrambled eggs and mini sausages - not any of the usual fayre. As with the Residence next door, it’s a shame that there was no bacon in a country so famous for its bacon.
Now usually I am delighted to see a Dualit toaster, it is the best toaster. But other guests treated it like it was a conveyor toaster. Ie. Walking away from it. You should never do this with a Dualit toaster. One guest chucked two slices in and walked away back to his table, not returning for 5 mins as a queue formed at the toaster. At best, annoying, at worst a potential fire risk if someone dials it all the way up and walks off.
- The Weird:
I can only describe the rooms as “Millennial Moxy”. If Moxy is aimed at Gen Z, this is aimed at geriatric millennials. Lots of wood and grey but similar size rooms and tiny bathrooms.
The TV system is terrible. The guide didn’t work properly, channel up/down leaves you with a black screen, only going via the guide seems to actually display a channel after a long black screen pause. Also, very few international channels I could find/get working. Which is surprising, given the international audience I suspect this hotel garners with the cruise ship terminal nearby.
- The Practicals:
Mobile Phone reception - 2 bars of 5g on TDC 3 bars 5g Telenor, tea and coffee in the room including a kettle with takeaway cups, usual Nirvae shampoo, liquid soaps etc. for the Marriott stans the shower has a door. If you are platinum or titanium the welcome gift is 500 points or €10 once per stay. The windows in the hotel open on vent, which brought in welcome fresh air.
It’s a walk to metro (M4) and a little more of a walk to the S trains (All Lines) (8 and 10 minutes, or thereabouts). If it’s raining, you’ll certainly need an umbrella. But, depending where you’re needing to visit in the centre or beyond, it’s quite quick to get to wherever you need to be.
To and from the airport the M4 metro line is the best. Change at Kongens Nytorv onto the M2 line, takes about 35mins door to door.
Nearby there are Netto and Lidl supermarkets, with the Netto having a PANT bottle deposit recycling machine down the side of the building. There's also a range of restaurants that have opened up recently, with some excellent options for you to discover.
- In Summary:
I mean it’s a good hotel, breakfast aside. I get what they were going for given the location. But ultimately I think I prefer other hotels in Copenhagen. I’m rating this a 4 because it isn’t a bad hotel, but I’m not sure I would return unless the price beat other hotels nearby that I prefer."
