Podstrana Holidays

A Croatian best-kept secret

Nestled between rolling hills and a stretch of windswept coastline, Podstrana is a collection of pretty hamlets located near Split. If you’re looking to avoid the crowds, this resort is the ideal base from which to explore the area. Regarded as an elite suburb of the city, it’s where the well-to-do spend time at their summer homes and is easily one of Split’s best-kept secrets.

Podstrana holidays offer incredibly diverse natural scenery, with soaring mountains that plummet into crystalline waters, and tree-shaded grassy banks lining the snaking Zrnovnica river. The sheer beauty of the region inspired ‘Game of Thrones’ producers to film some of the series here. The area is made up of five compact villages – the oldest is Gornja Podstrana, which is perched on a hillside. Mutogras, Strozanac, Grljevac and St Martin villages are scattered along the coast. Holidays to Podstrana provide pleasant beaches, excellent seafood and a dose of laid-back Mediterranean life within easy reach of the urban bustle of Split.
