A centre of Baroque culture

With its Baroque architecture, historic Hohensalzburg Fortress, Unesco World Heritage-listed city centre and beautiful Mirabell Palace and gardens, Salzburg holidays are a dream for culture lovers.

The birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the city is awash with historic buildings (including the house in which the composer was born), and is a lovely place to walk around and soak up the atmosphere. However, there’s also plenty to do in the city and nearby, including day excursions to mountains and hiking and sporting activities.

For those looking for a more laid-back atmosphere, the city is famous for its café culture, with numerous coffeehouses dotted all over town serving hot drinks and rich, delicious Austrian cakes.
With musical events held throughout the year, green spaces and a historic beer culture, you are spoilt for things to do on holidays to Salzburg, however you choose to spend your time.

Your Salzburg questions, answered

Salzburg is surrounded by mountains that are lush and green in summer and snowy in winter. Inside the city, Mirabell Palace’s colourful, well-manicured gardens are a beautiful place to visit.
You could spend your entire break here in coffeehouses. Austrian café culture is legendary, and the city has a wealth of traditional and modern venues selling drinks and cakes.
It certainly is. Mozart was born here and his birthplace is still visited by many. Salzburg also has a fortress, numerous museums and churches, and it’s where a lot of ‘The Sound of Music’ was filmed.
