"My husband and I stayed four nights at Hotel Roma during our visit to Lisbon.
When we arrived, the lobby was bright and welcoming, and our first interaction with the front desk staff was pleasant. Before arriving, I had read reviews mentioning train noise, so we asked if it was possible to have a room with a view that was farther from the nearby train line. The staff recommended that we try the room we were assigned and explained that the double-pane windows would minimize the sound.
One unexpected issue was the elevator. It was extremely small and was advised to use another elevator on the premises that operated more smoothly. With my husband, myself, the bellhop, one medium suitcase, one small suitcase, and two backpacks, the space felt very cramped and somewhat claustrophobic. Because of this, we started using another elevator located farther away from our room equally small in size but without operational issues.
The room itself was small but comfortable for two adults. The décor felt more traditional than modern, with a lot of wood finishes—wood floors, window frames, and furniture. The bed was firmer than I would have preferred so the first couple of nights were tough.
Unfortunately, the room ended up being quite noisy due to the nearby train. When we asked the front desk if it might be possible to change rooms, we were told the hotel was fully booked and that no other rooms were available. We also noticed there were no ice buckets in the room. When we asked for ice on two occasions, we were directed to the bar and were given two small coffee cups of ice.
During our stay, it sometimes felt like guest requests were treated more as inconveniences than opportunities to assist.
One staff member who really stood out was Ademar, who was consistently friendly and helpful. He gladly helped with directions, suggested places to visit, and recommended local activities. His customer service made a positive difference in our experience.
Pros
Helpful staff member (Ademar)
Convenient location near the metro, supermarkets, and restaurants
Easy access to explore Lisbon
Cons
Train noise in some rooms
Very small elevators
Limited accommodation for guest requests
While the location was convenient and we appreciated Ademar’s kindness, the overall experience did not meet our expectations. Because of this, we unfortunately would not choose to stay here again when visiting Lisbon."
