"We have just returned from spending a week at this hotel. Although its a lovely hotel, the changeable weather we experienced during our week highlighted its flaws.
The hotel is a series of buildings over nine levels, all of which are accessed by outside ramped walkways. We were on level 9 and we counted 400 steps between our room and reception, so probably about 300 to the restaurant. There was no way of getting to either the restaurant or reception undercover, so when it poured down you got wet. The hotel also does not have a residents' lounge area, and the indoor bar area, which was quite small, only opened at 6pm, and on the two occasions we used it, lacked atmosphere. Therefore, when it was raining/cold, you were more or less confined to your room.
Having said that, our room was great. We had a junior suite which had two double bedrooms. The second bedroom was twin beds pushed together and for some reason, didn't have a door, but that didn't bother me too much. The bathroom, however, is fully enclosed and was absolutely massive, although just has a shower. The lounge area had more enough seating and English channels 1-5 are available on the TV, which was a godsend on rainy afternoons. Our room was fabulously cleaned every day by Monica, who was one of the happiest people I've ever met!
We were half board and the food was lovely. There is an extensive buffet breakfast but you order eggs/omelettes/pancakes, which are brought to your table. At dinner, starters and deserts were from the buffet, but you ordered the main part of your main, then selected your sides from the buffet. Unlike in some hotels I've been to, the sides actually complimented the main course! The was a different selection of mains every day so nothing got repetitive, although that might change if you were there a fortnight, as not sure how often the daily menus change. A big shout out to Carlos who helped things run smoothly in the restaurant.
Although I've highlighted Monica and Carlos, all the staff were great. They don't all speak excellent English, but I don't speak Spanish so I can't complain at that, but they were very friendly and couldn't be more helpful.
Our main problem with the hotel was its location, as I'm in a wheelchair. The hotel is at the top of a steep hill. We managed to walk down it to the old town/harbour area in about 10-15mins but it would have been impossible to walk up with a manual wheelchair, and even though the old town/harbour area had a taxi rank, not many taxis seemed to go there so we waited up to 20mins for a taxi. This put us off going down there on a night and probably made us miss a good hotel bar, as there was only one bar within easy walking distance if you have mobility difficulties (if you don't, you do have more options)."
