"We stayed at Mitsis Belvedere in Corfu from 25–28 August, and I feel that I should warn prospective guests. Despite multiple complaints to both the hotel and the Mitsis chain since early September, we’ve received no formal response despite repeated follow-ups other than that their teams are busy dealing with queries. This silence speaks volumes.
My elderly parents paid a significant amount for what was advertised as a four-star experience; however, what they received was a health hazard and a clear case of consumer deception. Photos also shared.
Room conditions: unacceptable and unsafe
• The room was dark, facing a concrete wall and with rubbish on the terrace — not the “garden view” promised.
• Inside, the air was thick with sewage and damp smells, creating an unhealthy environment, especially for my elderly parents with medical conditions.
• Furniture was old and damaged, the wardrobe leaned dangerously, and the lighting fixtures were broken.
• The mattresses were so worn that the springs made sleep impossible — my parents had to rest in our room instead.
• Despite daily requests to change rooms, we were told none were available. The “solution”? A plumber stuffing a towel into the drain.
Food: repetitive, poorly cooked, and without labelling
• Daily offerings were limited to pasta, rice, and undercooked fries. Meat was either overcooked or inedible.
• “Chicken nuggets” contained barely any chicken and were so tough our children couldn’t chew them.
• A “Greek salad” with orange slices? No ingredient labels, no allergy information — unacceptable for a hotel catering to international guests. Unfortunately if you have no car, you are stuck as there is only one restaurant in “walking” distance (on unsafe without pedestrian street)
• Chipped plates in the restaurant only added to the sense of neglect.
Facilities: hazardous and poorly maintained
• The ladies poolside toilet was constantly flooded and dangerously slippery. My young daughter slipped and fell on her back on day one. Staff responded only when I reported it by placing old rugs temporarily. The marble flooring is entirely unsuitable for the pool area and poses serious safety risks.
Customer service: dismissive and disorganised
We tried to move one of our bookings a day earlier. For two days, we were told to “come back later” as it “might be possible.”On Friday afternoon, we were finally told to contact ekdromi.gr, the online platform we had booked from initially; however, their offices had already closed.
• Reception staff were dismissive, and management’s only gesture for my parents’ unacceptable room was a bottle of wine and a fruit platter. That doesn’t make up for a ruined family reunion we’d waited all year for.
Final thoughts, this hotel does not meet the 4 star standards it advertises. It fails on facilities, safety, food quality, and basic hospitality. We’ve requested a refund, as the service provided was far below the price paid and the promised four-star experience but we have not heard back after 2 months and multiple follow ups.
Until Mitsis and Belvedere respond appropriately, I feel it’s my duty to share this review. Future guests deserve honest, transparent information — not misleading descriptions and inflated pricing. We met other guests with similar complaints, so this is not an isolated case.
Avoid for the next few years until it’s actually sorted."
