"This was our first time going to Ibiza, and was booked through OnTheBeach. I really cannot see where this hotel comes in as a 3***.
I understand it is near the end of the season, but for those that are time limited on when they can go on holiday, surely the hotel(s) need to rely on people like us to keep them going in the slower period?
If you arrive after the bar has closed, you have no access to tea or coffee or cold water, unless you want to pay €3.60 for a bottle at the vending machine. There are no tea/coffee facilities available in the rooms, these must be hired, but there is also no fridge, although they can hire you one for €50 a week. (anything hired MUST be paid in CASH..)
The hotel was Clean and presentable, and the room was nice and large (accessible/disabled room) booked, but that’s where it starts to fall apart.
The bathroom was very dated, and needs more lighting, with it being very dark once the shower curtain is pulled around, and also in the corner where the toilet is. The shower whilst adequate, will also without warning, scald you for a couple of seconds then go back to normal, and the shower head was VERY rusty and covered in limescale, and the drain had a lot of clogged hair in it.
The main room the ceiling has what can only be described as thin metal slats that are not fixed down, and if you open the balcony door and there is any slight wind, these constantly rattle and crash.
Any outside wind howls through the balcony doors where the seals are no longer sealing.
The hotel room doors need soft closing mechanism’s as they just slam (although that might be because they don’t always close properly without slamming them)
The hotel only has 2 small lifts for too many people and rooms, considering most people need to use them at around the same time each day for the restaurant. (one was out of use for 2-3 days)
We also enquired about hiring a mobility scooter. The hotel emailed back to say they can arrange for €125 when I went to the desk on Saturday to book it, the price had gone up to €130 but when it was delivered and the hotel called me, despite an assurance of one as requested, conveniently there was no receipt available, and the price was €140. (also to be paid in cash only) I refused and was allowed to keep it for €130.
The food is the main let down of this holiday (I have stayed at many 3* hotels)
The food was never hot, even if you were the first into the restaurant, the trays would come out and be put in the bain-maries (which were not even on most of the time) and it was cold or lukewarm if you were lucky. The breakfast was identical each day, and not very warm, but the sausages were terrible, just tasted of breadcrumbs and pepper, not any taste of meat.
Lunch and dinner were both pretty similar, in that nothing was really hot, potato wise you have to put up with chips (cold) at every meal, I think there was only 1 other day, they had another potato product (as well as chips)
The pasta and associated sauces were cold, the meats on offer were normally ok, but once again only luke warm, and if in any form of sauce, over salted. There was also pizza every day, but the base of it was rock solid.
The saving grace for food was the snack bar, Although it is repetitive, at least the stuff is cooked to order so is hot, the only downside, is that the cook/server would decide to just walk off and close up whenever he felt like it, at one point I had to ask the barman to find him, as I had been standing there for 15 mins.. (supposed to be open from 12 – 6 daily)
So, in short regarding food, considering we paid all inclusive, instead of having 3 meals a day at the hotel, we would skip breakfast (boring, cold and tasteless after 2 days) – Skip lunch mostly for the same reason, have a burger and chips, or toasted sandwich from the snack bar, then 4 nights of 7 go out for food in the evening. Therefore using money we had put aside for other things, like excursions etc.
The drinks were not really much better, the lager is well – lager, the spirits were what you expect, but the mixers were terrible, constantly had no flavour to them, just tasting like soda water. The sangria at the bar, was totally different to the sangria in the restaurant as well??
Luckily for us, just a few minutes walk away is popeyes bar and restaurant which we used for our evening meals and entertainment, along with many others from the hotel that all had the same complaints about the food.
Es Canar was a lovely area, with some lovely beaches and sea front, and I would come back anytime, but just not to this hotel.
Also outside pool bar was closed (understand out of season) but notices up saying no entry to hotel if wet, well how are you meant to get drinks or food from the bar/snack bar??
Most of the staff were lovely, but also spent a lot of time on their phones, especially the lifeguard (when he was there)"
