"My husband and I went for a week's break in November 2025, staying in a premier junior suite. The hotel has good points and bad points but isn't a five star hotel, and the bottom line is that we wouldn't go again.
Good points:
- Extremely comfortable beds and pillows
- plentiful and large towels (both pools, spa and bathroom) and bathrobes (spa and bathroom)
- Gorgeous in-room toiletries - smelled delicious
- Very powerful shower in the bathroom
- thalassotherapy was nice, but honestly the spa at centre parcs in the lake district was better! I wouldn't want to pay extra for this facility
- the turndown service (when it happened properly, which was 3 times in a week. The other evenings ranged from no service to having a knock on the door and being handed a chocolate)
- quite a good egg station at breakfast, although often huge queues and only one egg chef
- we liked the location midway between old town (20 mins fast walk) and new town (15-20 mins fast all) and across from the marina (5 mins) but it wouldn't work for others as this midway location is also essentially no man's land.
Bad points:
- the noise! Our room was at the front of the hotel above the entrance and the techno music until midnight (from the hotel's rooftop bar) on the Saturday of arrival was unbelievable. Forget watching TV, reading a book in peace etc. Thank god I travel with Anker sleep buds and my husband has an ability to just zone out. On the second night it was a little better - a crooner in the reception bar whose voice floated right up and into our room, but honestly in a five star hotel I'd expect an emphasis on peace and quiet. This wasn't helped by the lack of double glazing and poorly shutting balcony doors. Thankfully quieter for the other five nights (other than traffic noise)
- no provision of water. I have never, even stayed in a five star hotel, in any continent, in which plentiful water is not provided in the room and elsewhere on the property. One 500ml carton each on day one of a week, and that was it (however if we'd booked in for seven separate nights, presumably we'd have got seven cartons of water - go figure!). Most hotels now have water filter machines and fill their own reusable bottles, which ticks the sustainability box and keeps guests hydrated. Not here! Water at breakfast was branded mineral water which was poured one small glass at a time. My top tip to deal with the lack of water problem is to take a refillable bottle - although having said that the only refill station is in the gym, which is a pain. I also took to collecting a bottle of water for our table as we entered the breakfast room rather than waiting to be served it. By the end of the holiday I'd decided it was fair game to fill my reusable water bottle using this.
- our room was dark, as was the balcony. The balcony was big but only equipped with 2 upright chairs and a table. I'd expect more comfortable seating on the balcony of a suite at a 5 star hotel - apart from the fact that it wasn't comfortable, the balcony just looked bare and unfurnished.
- breakfast was ok, but not startlingly good. Of particular note was the lack of fruit juices (orange served to you at the table and on some days another flavour available on the buffet, but often not). The fruits (fresh and dried) were a bit lacking. The service was a bit hit and miss when it came to ordering coffees (important to ask the right waiters - not the ones in red jackets who only seem to collect dirties rather then serve customers), and if you want cava you must ask, it is not offered despite being on display.
- at the rooftop pool the menu is very limited and very expensive.
- this is also a conference type hotel. There was a McDonalds conference whilst we were there, and whilst the conference itself didn't affect us, the delegates seemed to be checking in and clogging up reception for days. On one occasion we couldn't actually get in the front door for people queuing and had to push through, only to find 3 hotel managers/supervisors on the other side having a nice chat amongst themselves. I pointed out to one that we had struggled to get in and all I got in reply was 'oh yes, we've asked them to move, but they keep moving back'. In which case, maybe one of the managers should actually have been exercising crowd control rather than having a nice chat with other staff? To be honest this was a bit of a theme - many (not all) staff seemed more interested in chatting to each other than attending to customers. The definitive exception was the spa where all staff members were excellent and attentive, and Carlos at the downstairs pool was fabulously helpful and attentive.
Overall I admit that I have probably been spoiled by very high levels of service particularly at hotels in Asia and the Middle East, but five star is five star, and sadly this just isn't!"
