Caleta Dorada

"A much needed Winter sun break. 2 weeks at Club Caleta Dorada, all inclusive, in a sea view bungalow. The price that we paid for the holiday was fair for the time of year. My review just to let other people know what to expect of the hotel, if you have not visited before. Overall we enjoyed our holiday, and its a good base to explore Caleta De Fuste. Bungalows are basic on comfort, the interiors could do with a bit of a makeover decor wise, very poor lighting in the bedroom at night. In the shower, the water tends to flood out of the cubicle, and soak the floor. There was a safe in the bungalow, that can be hired for your stay, and a drying rack outside for towels and clothing. No tea's coffee's or milk provided in the bungalow. Our cleaner called every other day, and was thorough. I would recommend the sea view bungalow, as some of the others had no view at all. There is only one restaurant, which gets absolutely packed at breakfast and evening meal time. The tables are quite close together. The lunchtime service is definitely quieter, and there is a nice outside dining area, overlooking pool B. There is a good selection of foods, and desserts. A buffet style service, meaning lot of the hot food was tepid in temperature, but there is a microwave on the counter, if you prefer it hotter. The all inclusive drinks in the restaurant, tasted as if they were very over carbonated, making them undrinkable for me. The complex itself is massive! Area's A, B &C. On arrival it is pretty hard to find your accommodation! Please be aware also that some of the slopes in the complex may be classed as slightly steep, if mobility isn't good. We were not told on arrival that near to every set of outside stairs, there is a ramp. So we ended up lugging 2 heavy suitcases up 3 flights of stairs! which was not welcome, after a long flight! I think the ramps should be mentioned on check in, signposted with the bungalow numbers on each level or area, and lit better, as they were very dark to use in the evening. The 3 swimming pools available on the complex are not heated, so brace yourself, if you fancy a dip! The hotel is on a flight path! so it is quite noisy, this go's on into the night. If you are irritated by noise, maybe think before booking. You will see cockroaches, inside and out! but after all you are in their country! We did hear of some opportunist theft during our stay there. A bag was grabbed from an open apartment. So be mindful, and lock your valuables in a safe or in your case, and don't leave bags and phones unattended."

"We stayed here during the last week of November. The town is fairly close by, 15 mins walk and you can walk either way on the coastal path once down by the sea. The main beach is good with plenty of room and easy access to the water and fairly shallow. We came with Jet2 and the transfers were very good and smooth. Check in at the hotel was fine, our room wasn't ready but we got our wristbands and went for lunch and by the time we had a walk around, the room was ready at 3.00 as expected. You are given a map to show you around, but it isn't that clear where you are going, but we were shown the way by one of the cleaners who could tell we were lost. This was the the first bit of good service we encountered and this carried on for the rest of the week. From reception staff, to waiting on staff, bar staff all were smiley and welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. Our room was in B block and I have to admit, it wasn't the best room I have ever stayed in. The walls were shabby, the flooring, although fairly new, lifted as you walked on it, the beds were like camp beds, but the bathroom was nice with a great shower. The restaurant experience was good. The food, although sometimes lukewarm was varied and we always manged to have plenty to eat at all mealtimes. There was always somewhere to sit and the self serve drinks were very drinkable! In the evenings, the only bar area available was in C block and as other reviewers have said, it is a bit of a trek up there on uneven pavements and roads and unlit in parts. The entertainment was weak at best, with some children's songs (can't get them out of my head!) and a couple of nights they had singers on and some bingo. One thing that did bother me was some of the choice language used by some of the people in all areas of the resort, and often in front of children. Overall, a nice week in the sun. It was our first time in Fuerteventura, and I think we would return, possibly not to this resort, but as the title suggests, you get what you pay for."

"Oh where to begin... Stayed for 3 weeks after saving for our first ever family holiday. We booked this hotel due to its family friendly reputation and our first week went well as the staff were friendly and the sun was shining bright. The main pool in complex c was so cold that you need a 5 mm wetsuit to swim in it so we spent most of our time on the beach instead. Unfortunately things started going down hill after our first week and I had to have a rant on day 10 to get our bed sheets changed. The apartment was very run down with floor tiles coming up in the bathroom which was dangerous for our kids feet. The electric box outside was hanging off the wall the entire time and when it rained we lost power probably due this. We were locked out of the apartment one day as the key would not work which meant another trip to reception to get this sorted. To be fair these small issues were fixed quickly by the maintenance men on duty but glad it wasn't out of hours as this could have been an issue. The biggest problem I have is that we had money taken from a locked suitcase which was in our apartment. Yes the key for this was not hard to find and unfortunately I can't prove who it was but I can garentee that this money was in my suitcase and that the door was locked everytime we left the building. My suspicions are with the cleaning staff as they very attentive after I complained about the lack of cleaning being done on the first week. Such a shame as It has tainted what could have been a relaxing holday and instead I'm writing this review. The food is OK but very repetitive with pork being the main protein source every 2nd day. The only juice on offer for the kids was full of sugar which made them high as kites. Most of the staff except a few, were miserable and clearly did not like thier jobs and this showed on week 2 and 3. I also didnt like being called "Jimmy" on a regular basis after they found out I was Scottish which I found to be almost racist. Be careful if you are considering this hotel as you may be disappointed and certainly don't stay more than a week if you do. Plus get a safe key when you arrive to avoid being robbed by the staff. Such a shame to write such a review as I am in the industry myself but this is why it bothered me so much. Not to worry, time to start saving for our next trip which will not be at this hotel I can garentee that."
