"Apologies, this review may be lengthy and comprehensive but I’m sure it could be very helpful if you are considering the Steigenberger Alcazar as a holiday destination.
We have just returned from our THIRD stay at
the Steigenberger Alcazar.
We are a mature couple and enjoy holidays all over the world in many exotic locations and do not usually go back to the same hotel since there are so many undiscovered places to visit.
But the Steigenberger changed that! Plus, it is just a short flight (5hrs) from the UK so perfect for a short getaway 5-7 days.
The hotel itself is quite impressive and luxurious.
The grounds are pretty, colourful and beautifully maintained, almost ‘manicured’.
The rooms, restaurants, bars and lobbies are immaculately clean, it feels like a palace!
The staff in every area are all incredibly courteous, friendly and always very willing to help and make your stay as comfortable and trouble free as possible.
We tend to spend our days down at ‘adult only’ pool, nearest to the beach and jetty, at our age it suits us, but there are two other main pools lots of with activities for families etc.
On all 3 visits, the staff/waiters at the Relaxation bar by the adult/beach pool have been amazing, so friendly and always keeping us ‘watered’ in good time.
The jetty is fantastic, we walked it twice daily for the exercise but also for spotting fish and ray. There is a platform at the end where the reef drops off with easy for access to the water and perfect for snorkelling. They provide free masks and life vests if required and the lifeguards are very helpful and accommodating.
The beach itself is fine, with lots of available sun beds and pretty cabanas. Entering the sea is our only disappointment, it is quite stony (dead coral?) and quite shallow so it is not really suitable for swimming or just jumping and splashing around. We are more ‘pool people’ so it wasn’t a big issue for us.
Onto the food. The ‘pièce de résistance’, the crowning glory!
It was never bad before but after all 3 visits, this was by far the BEST culinary delight!
We believe they have had a change in their Food & Beverage management and their menus were very inviting but the choices and quality of food were incredible! It was like eating at Rick Stein’s or Gordon Ramsay’s every night (and day)!
Even the lunch offering down at the beach restaurant and by the middle pool was delicious.
There are 5 à la carte restaurants so there plenty of choice and variation.
We just prefer the style and service with à la carte dining but there is also a huge buffet restaurant for breakfast, lunch and evening where I guarantee you will find many things to please you (or the kids).
The standard, the offerings and the quality is outstanding throughout all restaurants!
I have sung the praises of this excellent hotel, now they must accept some small criticism too and it is very small but it won’t spoil your holiday.
For such a ‘premium’ 5* hotel, the minibar and snacks were NOT included this time (as was previously). However, beer and soft drinks were extended to us as returning guests but we feel that wine (as previous) beer, soft drinks and snacks should be available for ALL guests, even on first visits. (On a personal note, we don’t drink beer so wine would have been a nicer option).
This lack of minibar appears to be a Steigenberger worldwide direction so there’s not much chance of that improving.
Notable mentions for staff members that went out of their way to make us feel welcome and spoiled.
Ahmed Fathy - Front Desk Manager, he was very friendly, helpful and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble for him.
Ahmed - Limone - Italian à la carte
Khaled - Hama - Asian/Japanese à la carte
Sharif - Hama/La Maison - Asian/Japanese/French à la carte
Mustafa - Hama - Asian/Japanese à la carte
Ahmed - Sanafir - Beach/Fish à la carte (lunch and evening)
Mahmoud ‘Why not?’ Sanafir - Beach/Fish à la carte (lunch and evening) - nothing was out of the question, he would always satisfy our ‘off menu’ requests.
Zeyad - Sanafir - Beach/Fish à la carte (lunch and evening)
Islam - Relaxation/Adult only Pool bar
Khaled - Relaxation/Adult only Pool bar
All in all we had a fantastic holiday at the Steigenberger Alcazar, and for the cost (through EasyJet Holidays) it is probably the BEST Value For Money holidays we’ve ever enjoyed!
We are now planning our next visit for Feb-March.
Please note, in case you are considering it, we have also stayed twice at the nearby, also 5* hotel, The Rixos, which is also very nice, but the Steigenberger Alcazar is much better!
You won’t be disappointed!"
