New Price Index shows bundling flights and hotels into a package deal saves savvy travellers up to £378 compared to booking separately.
Over half (53%) of Brits would prefer to use money they save for shopping and experiences rather than paying more for a trip they book themselves
The data comes as easyJet holidays expands its city break offering via a new Expedia Group B2B partnership, unlocking thousands of top European city hotels in a single, ATOL-protected booking.
British holidaymakers can unlock up to £378 in extra spending money for their European city breaks simply by booking their trip as a package rather than building it piece-by-piece. According to new research commissioned by easyJet holidays and conducted by Censuswide among 2,000 nationally representative UK consumers aged 18 and over, over half (53%) of Brits would prefer to use money they save for shopping and experiences rather than paying more for a trip they book themselves.
easyJet holidays expands city break offering
The findings come as easyJet holidays launches a major expansion of its city break portfolio. Powered by a new partnership with Expedia Group B2B, customers booking a flight on easyJet.com can now choose to add a hotel from thousands of additional options across Europe’s most popular city destinations, turning their flight and hotel into a package in just a few clicks.
Research also reveals that almost half (45%) of Brits have actively travelled overseas to purchase designer items and luxury goods or bought something spontaneously on holiday, with only a quarter (25%) saying they booked their travel and accommodation as a package. Choosing a package holiday makes planning a shopping city break effortless, removing the stress around logistics and multiple bookings. A new Price Index, commissioned by easyJet holidays, compared the cost of booking individual travel elements against package deals.
The new proposition means customers can seamlessly combine their preferred flights and accommodation, alongside optional luggage and transfer add-ons, into one effortless booking. Every city break package is fully covered by ABTA and ATOL protection, giving holidaymakers complete peace of mind alongside maximum value.
Unlocking savings for savvy shoppers
The results also show that booking package was cheaper than arranging the same trips independently across the destinations analysed, saving travellers an average of £328 and up to £378 on travel alone. When combined with European luxury retail savings, savvy shoppers can unlock total combined savings of up to £1,724.
Trying to build a getaway piece-by-piece often leads to unexpected expenses. Rather than securing a bargain, travellers who booked their flights and accommodation separately ended up spending up to £378 more than package bookers. On top of higher standalone hotel rates, holidaymakers admit that additional costs across airport transfers (17%) and booking fees (15%), meant they spent more than expected when booking travel separately.
Despite these potential savings, 70% of Brits remain unaware that luxury items such as designer handbags often carry significantly lower price tags in European boutiques than on UK high streets. This knowledge gap comes even as over a fifth (21%) of shoppers state they would travel abroad specifically to buy luxury goods if it saved them between £250 and £499, a threshold easily unlocked when packaging travel and shopping savings together.
