Mercure Glasgow City

"If you’re looking for a good night’s sleep, I would NOT recommend this hotel. The outside noise was extremely loud and continued throughout the night. Stayed here for one night as a couple after attending a concert. The hotel has recently been renamed from Mercure to Lyf, so it took us a little while to find it as we were looking for Mercure signage. It’s around a 10-minute walk from Central Station, and check-in was quick and easy. We stayed on the 5th floor. The room was clean but very small, with a really comfortable double bed, TV, kettle and a bathroom with a shower. Breakfast was included and was buffet-style, with a full English, pastries, fruit and cereals, so there was a good choice. Unfortunately, the noise was the biggest issue and completely ruined our stay. The hotel is on a very busy street, and the noise from outside was unreal. We could hear noisy cars and exhausts, emergency services and people hanging around after a night out throughout the night. On top of this, the radiator in our room was also making noises all night. We were lucky if we got around 2 hours of sleep, which was really disappointing. The hotel itself was actually fine, and we had no other major issues. However, if you’re a light sleeper or simply want to get a decent night's sleep, I would seriously think twice about staying here. Unfortunately, we wouldn’t stay here again or recommend it because of the location and the level of outside noise, which is a real shame because the hotel itself wasn’t bad."

"Room was small, but clean and comfortable. However, the room overlooked the street and traffic noise was a major issue. (Motorbikes revving outside late at night were so loud, it sounded like they were in the room with me.) The window didn't shut fully and the noise was unbearable at times. Luckily, it did eventually settle down enough to allow me to sleep."

"This hotel us going through a regrading. It was previously The Mercure, so i have taken this into account as we had booked it as The Mercure and found out a couple of weeks ago it had changed. The reception and bar area are bright and quirky and the reception staff were friendly. I am assuming our room on the 6th floor was one of the ones that hadn't yet been refurbished. It was clean, but very small and cramped. There was a hole where the plug socket should go for the kettle and it was ridiculously hot. There is no air con and even though we opened the window all night (opens by about 3cm), it was still very warm. They do have adult size towels in the bathroom which is a huge plus for me as most hotel towels are not much bigger than hand towels. The hotel breakfast was £12 up and there was plenty of choice between hot breakfast and cereals, pastries and toast definitely worth the money. The location is fabulous just by George Square and close to the famous "Duke of Wellington" statue and perfect location for shopping. I would say its a budget hotel. It was ideal for us for 1 night, we attended a show at the Hydro and it was just a 5 minute walk to Argyle Street Station. I am sure that once the refurb has been completed, it will be lovely."
