Mar Hall Golf and Spa Resort

"We booked a stay in the garden rooms. The room was brilliant and spacious, also having its own garden was great! That was as good as it got! The bar service was terrible. The restaurant the same! It wasnt busy, yet we had to keep asking for drinks. It took over 30 mins to get a drink. The staff were all standing around chatting and not paying any attention at all. When we went to bed, both Tvs from 2am onwards kept turning on themselves every 30 mins blaring loud. This happened 4 times until i could find something to get in to the back of the tv to turn them off. I wrote to the hotel 3 times and complained on checking out! 5 weeks later i have had zero response! This is not a 5 star resort."

"Lovely hotel and location. Truly amazing. However that is where it all ends. Terrible service and dried up food. Nice rooms. Nice pool but very noisy ventilation in the pool. For a 5 star hotel they must do better. The waiters were not trained in what was being ordered, trays of drinks were dropped. The breakfast took over an hour to get prepared and was dried up and inedible. The breakfast bar was unreplenished and r the main courses were poorly cooked. Not a good experience BUT the grounds and hotel building are amazing g. Worth a visit but not to eat or stay. Btw, Homus, burger and chips ( one drink) was £52. You will certainly pay for the location and atmosphere !!!!"

"My husband and I visited the dining room to celebrate our one year wedding anniversary however unfortunately, we had a very disappointing experience. Service throughout the evening was extremely slow, with one hour between courses. During the entire meal, not once did a server approach us to ask whether we would like drinks; we had to actively seek staff out ourselves whenever we needed something. We were also served lukewarm water and were never offered refills. Although the food was nice, the portions felt poor value for the price point. For example, the gem and Parmesan salad (£7) consisted of only a few lettuce leaves with dressing, and the ice cream dessert (£8) was three scoops of what tasted like carte d’or. We had seen online some pictures of meals served ‘table side’ but this didn’t take place. What made the evening particularly frustrating was the complete lack of communication or acknowledgment from staff. Had they explained that the kitchen was running slower than usual, we would have been understanding. However, there was no apology at any stage for the delays or overall experience. It was also concerning to observe that every other table (four others) were raising concern to staff about either the food or service, suggesting this was not an isolated issue. We were celebrating a special occasion, yet no effort was made to engage with us, build rapport, or even ask if we were enjoying our evening. The service felt impersonal and lifeless, with some staff appearing to actively avoid eye contact when passing the table. Given there were only a handful of occupied tables, the number of staff present should have been more than sufficient to manage service effectively. The service charge automatically added on also felt ironic. Overall, what had the potential to be a lovely evening became quite disappointing. Mar Hall is a beautiful venue, but they need to invest in staff training to match the expectations associated with a luxury hotel."
