Maldron Hotel Glasgow City

"Amazing & beyond expectations! First - and most important - the cleanliness was fabulous. Bathroom & bedroom both very very clean and this was my biggest worry coming from the US to overseas & using an unfamiliar hotel chain. I needed NOT worry about this property! Towels also excellent, thirsty & clean and you can always get more! Location was EXCELLENT as well, with so much within EASY walking distance! Starbucks & Blacksheep coffee just around the corner (72 Sauchiehall St less than 2-min walk away) and numerous restaurants like 161 Bar & Kitchen (underneath the Holiday a couple blocks away) and Ardnamurchan also around the corner ($$$ but worth it!!). Bus Station also a couple blocks away (where most tour busses meet you & depart from). Rooms are simple & modern - could have used more USB connections, but we brought our travel converters & needed them! I also recommend a Converter that has a plug for hair dryers & curling irons. Rooms ARE SMALL, so there's not a lot of space to store suitcases for a 5-7 night stay, but there is a small closet & SMALL table. It's TIGHT if you have 3 in a room - BUT THE BENEFIT for us was a "double" + "single" room (actually a Queen, double in Scotland means 2-people, not a full/Dbl bed like the US) which we struggled to find elsewhere & made it so much less expensive to have our teen with us instead of a 2nd separate room. Very cost effective when on a budget! ALSO, for what the Hilton & Marriott chains were offering, the price here was WAY better - and I saw those other properties many times from the street & they did NOT look nicer! A couple oddities for US travelers (just to prepare you!) : - gym access is free, but you have to ASK to have it added to your key card - lights & AC in the room are great, but are completely shut off/on by a key card in a wall-box as you enter...so get one extra card to leave in the key slot there so you don't come back to a dark room! - NO outlets in the bathroom! One very strange one that said 'shavers only' and it wasn't a typical UK plug....so, NO outlets in the bathroom! Space out in the main bedroom is tight, so be prepared (ladies) for being creative with getting-ready-space (and bring a converter for your curling iron or bring one with digital heat adjustment so you can dial it all the way down). - breakfast in Scotland is hit or miss, many places don't serve traditional b'fast. So the Hotel is a good option. Stack & Still was our absolute favorite, but doesn't open til 9am. - there is no "hotel entrance' on the street! Lobby is small also, big lounge & bar area though. So if you have a car, good luck with parking (I guess it's fight for a spot somewhere on a nearby street?). I was VERY glad we opted for Uber's. But you have to be quick getting in & out as Renfrow St. is busy!!"

"Disappointing to get a room designed for someone with mobility issues. I really feel I should have been told this when I checked in. Not the vibe I was looking for. Also close to lift and has ugly view of building works. All this and I paid full price."
