The Scholar

"The Scholar hotel in Edinburgh is very well appointed and is comfortable, clean, and tastefully decorated. All the staff are caring, cheerful, and willing to help at all times. The morning/breakfast staff are paticularly helpful, smiley and obligeing . I now consider the hotel to always be my first choice for future visits to Edinburgh."

"Perfectly placed for a conference at the McIntyre Centre, this beautiful hotel has all the mod cons expected nowadays in a wonderful enclave within Edinburgh University. The room was good (although made up as two singles instead of one double). Food was good but there was a lack of diversity on the menu for a three night stay."

"We stayed for 4 nights for a conference. The hotel is very clean and the staff were pleasant and helpful. Our room was quite basic, with little space for storage. The bedside tables were very small side tables with no drawers - there were no drawers at all in the room, just a few hangers. The bed was very comfortable and the room was cleaned every day, which was a bonus. The bathroom was well appointed and the toiletries were lovely. However - the bathroom had a sliding door that didn’t lock and the door was very close to one side of the bed, so not a lot of privacy! The room cost is expensive, I think we paid £200 per night. That seems too much for basic facilities in an out-of-town location, although the park is beautiful. We had dinner once at The Abacus. Food was fine, but just that, it wasn’t high end. Also, as the restaurant was busy that night, it took ages for the food to arrive. Would we stay again? We probably wouldn’t have occasion to, but a central location might suit us better."
