"Booked a few months ago for three nights with Tomislav, the Front Office Manager who was very helpful and responded quickly to my emails.
Travelling from Edinburgh Airport to the hotel was roughly a 30 minute journey.
We were told at the airport it was going to be £33.00 at the taxi kiosk but the taxi charged £46.00. Seemingly the taxis are charged an extra £8.00 by the airport which made it more expensive. It was £33.00 on the way back, so not sure if first taxi added a few pounds!
Check in process with Anya was pleasant and we were pleased our room 317 was ready even though it was around 1pm that we arrived.
We made our way to the room which had an excellent view of Edinburgh Castle. Lovely big room, cosy bed and a good bathroom with a step in shower and a bath. Liked night lights too! Housekeeping do an excellent job and the room was spotless.
We had lunch when we arrived and a most pleasant man called Eduard served us. Eduard was most friendly, welcoming and helpful. The Club sandwiches were really nice.
For service in the bar, there is a 12.5% service charge added. This seemed to be in most restaurants in Edinburgh. It was very nice to meet Cormac, the supervisor from Ireland. We enjoyed his banter.
The reception of the hotel is on the first level and the breakfast and bar are on the second level and if you are leaving the hotel you go to the second floor.
Breakfast was excellent, I enjoyed an omelette each morning, my husband had eggs royale which he said were very nice. These were served to the table. Good selection of juices, fruits, yoghurts, pastries, cereals, breads, and hot food with a corner for gluten free. Service each morning was very good. All the staff were attentive and helpful.
We had intended going to the pool, but we were out exploring Edinburgh and never made it.
On the second morning, we had the pleasure of meeting Wayne, who has worked in the hotel for 41 years and Tomasz in reception. Both of these gentlemen went out of their way to make our stay more enjoyable and it was a pleasure to speak to them both.
We had access to the Clubroom near reception. A lovely quiet large room with very comfortable seating, furnishings and decor.
They serve breakfast here in the mornings, if you wish to avail of this service, we stayed in the main breakfast as we enjoyed it. Great selection of hot beverages and cold drinks during the morning, up to evening time. And from 5pm to 7pm there is a fantastic selection of hot foods, desserts and you can also have wine, beers, ciders and spirits.
Thank you also to Surajit, I had wanted a hard pillow, and although pillows were sent to my room, they were all soft. I asked Surajit would he enquire again for me and within a few minutes hard pillows were delivered to my room. Surajit looked after us very well greeting us for breakfast and then as we dined before we left for the airport in the bar. Satay chicken burger was delicious.
This hotel is a great base for sight seeing in Edinburgh. If you go left you are on Princes street within ten minutes, and if you go right you can be in The Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle within about 15 minutes.
If we return to Edinburgh, I would return to this beautiful hotel. The staff are all excellent, a few others deserve a mention Michael and Emma in the bar. There was a young gentleman on lunch who chatted with us and was also very friendly, sorry we did not get his name.
Thank you especially to Eduard, Wayne, Tomasz and Surajit who all went out of their way looking after us. You made our stay lovely and we appreciated your excellent service.
I would highly recommend this hotel."
