"If you are traveling solo in Edinburgh, I can't imagine a better value hotel. I stayed for 12 nights. I do not need daily housekeeping or a lot of storage space. I also don't spend a lot of time in my room, so having lots of lounging space in the room was not important. If you are traveling as a couple, group, or family, you may have issues that were not relevant to my stay. That said...
Roomzzz was ideal for a solo traveler: big, comfortable bed; closet space and plenty of cubbyholes for storing clothes; a full refrigerator/freezer; stovetop; microwave; toaster; coffeemaker; dishes and utensils'; sink; walk-in shower and plenty of room in bathroom for toiletries; plentiful hot water; reading lights for those who like to read in bed; iron and ironing board; safe; full length mirror; and large balcony with a breathtaking view of Calton Hill (if you stay on Floor 3 in an odd numbered room).
The hotel itself has wonderful, attentive 24/7 service. Free coffee and freshly made croissants are available in the lobby every morning. Free laundry (washer and dryer) available on 2 floors, so no need to overpack. A large, cozy, quiet seating area at reception where you can plug in and use a laptop or watch TV on a large screen.
The location can't be beat: Old Town to the south, New Town to the east, Leith to the north, and Holyrood Park to the west. Can't be more central than that. Close access to North/South Bridge, which provides fast (and relative flat) access to Old Town and the Royal Mile. Princes Street and Gardens are steps away, as are so many museums, restaurants, and shops. Also minutes from the first stop of the highly recommended Hop-On Hop-Off bus tours (3 routes to choose from), that begin at Waterloo Place and a short walk from Waverly Station, which is where the Airlink bus from the airport drops off passengers.
Finally, Roomz is on the top floor of the relatively new St. James Quarter complex. Given Scotland's rainy climate, you will be more than pleased that, without having to leave the complex, you can access 5 floors of restaurants serving every type of food (the area in general is known for its street food--check out Bonnie and Wild or Edinburgh Street Food or Little King Street). Also plenty of shopping and even a movie at Everyman Cinemas, a luxury theater just a minute around the corner from the hotel. Being on the top floor feels like you're in another neighborhood--virtually the only traffic in that part of the complex is hotel guests. And you have access to all of this without having to open an umbrella, morning, afternoon, and evening.
I would return to Roomzzz without another thought for my next trip to Edinburgh. It provides quick access to the best of both worlds Edinburgh has to offer: the historic and traditional alongside the modern and cosmopolitan."
